Mother Nature and Santa delivered for the holidays, making Steamboat the big winner of the weekend storm with 1 1/2 feet of fresh snow covering the slopes. The new snow, and the hard work from the mountain operations team, allowed the resort to open the Sundown Express lift with access to High Noon, One O’Clock and Rolex.
A few things to keep in mind for the new terrain:
• Terrain off Sundown Express, including High Noon, WILL NOT BE GROOMED.
• Trails off Sundown Express will be accessible via Storm Peak Express.
• Spur Run will not be open.
• Elkhead Express lift will be running to help skiers and riders exit the Sundown area. If you take this lift and want to return to the area, take Storm Peak Express.
• If you want to lap High Noon, we recommend staying on the Sundown lift.
Not grooming this new terrain allows us to best maintain conditions and pack down the snow to build the best foundation for the slopes. Basically, we’re using you, our skiers and riders, to set the base. Once the snow is settled, we’ll groom High Noon.

The forecast looks favorable for Steamboat, and we’ll take advantage of any additional natural snowfall and snowmaking temperatures to continue opening terrain and lifts in the Sundown area as well as set our sights on Valley View. Stay tuned for more updates from the mountain operations team, and keep doing your snow dances. They are working!
