Steamboat to Host Division I Colleges During 3rd Annual Mascot Stampede
Twenty NCAA Division I mascots will gather Dec. 16 and 17 at Steamboat Ski Resort to test their skills in on– and off–snow competitions as well as hone their mascot expertise with professional development and educational seminars.
“Steamboat is known for our welcoming western roots, family friendly atmosphere and competitive athletic spirit,” said Rob Perlman, president and chief operating officer of Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. “The Mascot Stampede encompasses all these values into one unbelievably fun event. We look forward to seeing what creative antics the mascots will bring to the snow this winter.”
Alumni and fans of participating schools are invited to join the fun with ample opportunity for mascot interaction. The event kicks off with a ski and dance party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, when guests can hit the slopes with their favorite mascots and dance the night away in the base area. Saturday’s events start at 11:30 a.m. with a parade followed by a snow bike race, saucer pull, tug of war, dance off and obstacle challenge before the Mascot Stampede champion is crowned at 3:30 p.m. on the Steamboat Stage.
All events take place in the base area or on the snow adjacent to the base area, and spectators will be able to interact with their favorite collegiate mascots, take photos and get autographs. The Mascot Stampede is the brainchild of Steamboat Ski Resort in conjunction with Raymond Entertainment Group, which has produced mascot events across the country. The event also includes a Mascot Boot Camp, which highlights team building and best practices to help the student performers become better mascots.
“The Mascot Stampede reminds us how passionate student performers are about their craft and that they love to learn and get better,” said Dave Raymond, of Raymond Entertainment Group. “But at the end of the day, they really love to entertain, inspire and compete. The payoff is watching a group of wild and zany mascots interact with skiers and college fans from all over the country.”
