SCHOLARSHIP DAY RAISES MORE THAN $64,000 FOR WINTER SPORT CLUB FUND
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO-December 3, 2015-The Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation’s annual Scholarship Day program, celebrating its 25th year, raised $64,122 for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club’s (SSWSC) Scholarship Fund on Wednesday, November 25, 2015.
“It’s truly amazing the positive impact Scholarship Day has had for so many children of the Yampa Valley and continues to demonstrate the true spirit of Steamboat-Ski Town, U.S.A.®,” commented Rob Perlman, president and chief operating officer of the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. “On behalf of everyone at the resort, we can’t thank the community enough for their continued support of Scholarship Day and the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. This past Scholarship Day was an incredible way to usher in top-to-bottom skiing and riding and set the tone for a great season ahead.”
The resort kicks off every season with Scholarship Day, the traditional opening season benefit for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club’s Scholarship Fund, where all ticket proceeds go to the SSWSC. Wednesday’s tally represents the fifth largest amount in the history of the program. Over the past 25 years, Steamboat’s Scholarship Day program has generated between $12,006 to a record $84,890 annually for a total of more than $990,000. Funds from Scholarship Day provide important financial support to children in club programs.
“Programs like Steamboat’s Scholarship Day are few and far between in the industry,” added Jim Boyne, executive director of SSWSC. “We’re thankful and proud that the Steamboat Ski Resort, together with tremendous support from the community, contribute so much to our Routt County youths and help in achieving their dreams on and off the snow.”
For more than a century, the SSWSC has been providing opportunities for young athletes to become successful individuals and to achieve their personal goals in athletics and in life through participation in sports. The SSWSC is unique within the United States as it offers training in all of the Nordic disciplines as well as Alpine, freestyle, freeskiing, snowboarding (alpine and parks & pipes) and telemark. The SSWSC is one of the oldest and most recognized ski clubs in the United States and was named the United States Ski & Snowboard Association’s Club of the Year three times in the past decade.
The club’s heritage is a major reason Steamboat enjoys the moniker Steamboat-Ski Town, U.S.A.® No other town in North America has produced more winter Olympians than Steamboat Springs, a record 88 and counting. In fact, Steamboat sent more athletes (14) to the 2014 Games than many small countries. Steamboat’s Winter Olympians have represented 12 countries/territories and made over 151 Olympic appearances during 19 Winter Games.
