Morningside to Open Friday; Sundown Area Is Next Focus
Terrain continues to open at Steamboat Ski Resort with the addition of Lil’ Rodeo Terrain Park and Mini Mavs as well as four new trails today, including Skeeter’s, Big Foot and the lower portions of Big Meadow and Cowtrack.
Morningside is slated to open Friday, Dec. 22, with eight new trails. Alarm Clock, Bail Out, Cowboy Coffee, upper Cowtrack, Frying Pan, Over Easy, Rooster and Snooze Bar will be accessible via the Morningside Lift off Storm Peak Express, bringing the resort’s terrain total to 592 acres with 54 trails and nine lifts by the weekend.
Crews then will focus on opening lifts and trails in the Sundown area, including Elkhead and Sundown lifts with High Noon, One O’Clock, Two O’Clock and Rolex first. The operations team is hoping to open this terrain by Christmas and will continue to open more terrain as weather conditions allow.
A storm is tracking toward Steamboat beginning tonight and into Thursday, which could bring natural snowfall in addition to continued cold nighttime temperatures for snowmaking.
