After 6 long months, ski season is finally back! At least its almost finally back. In case you haven’t heard, the mountain is scheduled to open for Scholarship Day tomorrow and for the normal season on Thursday. So get your skis and boards waxed up and get ready for another winter in Steamboat.

Warming up the Gondola

The season kicks off tomorrow morning with the annual Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Scholarship Day. For those of us who live here in the valley, it’s a chance to help out the organization that is responsible for training so many of our Olympians. For visitors, its a great chance to get a day on the slopes for just 25 bucks. Either way, it’s a great organization and so vital to the character that makes up Steamboat Springs and the Yampa Valley. Your $25 ticket gets you a whole day of runs on the Christie Peak Express, and if you are one of the first 100 people in line tomorrow, you get a free T-shirt.

For everyone who can’t make it up tomorrow, the season starts Thursday when the gondola opens along with Heavenly Daze. This last blast of snow has helped a ton in getting the mountain ready for riding, but the cold nighttime temps have been key. The snowmaking crews have been working nonstop every night for a few weeks now to get enough snow on the ground. Their hard work has paid off, and the base on Heavenly Daze looks great from the valley.

A little Thanksgiving gift from Mother Nature.

After this storm clears out of the valley tonight, we are in for some beautiful blue skies to start the season. While that may not be the best forecast for this time of year, it will certainly make for a pleasant first week of the season. The temps up high on the mountain will be cold enough at night to make plenty of snow, so keep your eye out for new trails opening up daily.

Enjoy the 2017/18 season!
