Wow it is a nice day in Steamboat. Not one cloud in the sky … nada, zero, nothing, zilch.
The sun is shining bright and warm today, leaving us a little seasonally confused. While the calendar says January, the weather says mid-March. The temperatures are very comfortable today, and it honestly felt great to not be cold even in the earliest part of the morning. When the cozy rays of sun greeted us at the top of the Gondola, I expected to be making turns on snow that reflected spring conditions; much to everyone’s surprise we played on a winter snow pack as the snow was nice and carvable on every groomed run we picked. The snow will always be in its best condition early in the day, and it has really been paying off lately to show up to the mountain right at opening bell.
With the sun and mild conditions making for a simply excellent morning of skiing, we focused all the early runs on the Sundown and Sunshine area of the mountain. Carving turns into the soft lines of perfect corduroy set against a flawless bluebird Colorado sky left each of us smiling run after run. While the powder gods may be asleep at the wheel lately, the sun gods are taking great care of us right now. What a great day to be out here skiing and soaking up some rays while enjoying those Yampa Valley views that never get old. What an awesome place we get to play in!
Pick of the mountain today is Sunshine Lift Line – beautiful lines of manicured cordoroy and very few skiers to be seen. But hurry up to the mountain, because the solitude won’t last long today… the weather is simply too nice to just stay inside. Get up here and get started on your goggle tan!
