STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO-February 24, 2015-Powderhounds celebrated the weekend with a winter storm that blanketed the mountain with two feet of Champagne Powder® snow, reminding skiers and riders that the season is far from over. With seven weeks to go, Steamboat does not close out the 2014/2015 winter until Sunday, April 12
“This weekend’s storm made for one of those unique Champagne Powder® snow experiences that we all live for,” said Chris Diamond, president and chief operating officer for Steamboat. “Steamboat is arguably enjoying the best snow conditions in the Colorado Rocky Mountains with the largest mid-mountain base of any major destination resort in the state and forecasts point that it will only get better.”
Since February 1st, the resort has enjoyed 52.5 inches at mid-mountain and 54.5 inches at the summit, including 21 inches and 23 inches over the weekend respectively. Steamboat is reporting a 61-inch base at mid-mountain and 72-inch base at the summit. This season, Steamboat has been blanketed by nearly 16 feet of snow at mid-mountain and more than 17 feet at the summit since October 1.
More snow is expected off and on over the Colorado high country through the remainder of the week. Steamboat Springs will begin to feel the effects of another system Wednesday with several inches of fresh snow by Thursday. The next substaintial snow storm is anticipated by the weekend.
“Mother Nature has put us right back into full-on winter with lots of snow and cold temperatures,” said Doug Allen, vice president of mountain operations. “Forecasts are calling for a shift for March and April bringing a snowier pattern to the resort. As we all know, Steamboat is notorious for big storms coupled with pristine bluebird skies, and this weekend storm is just the beginning of what we see as an incredible second half of the season.”
In addition to serving up heaps of Champagne Powder® snow, the resort is offering the Sun & Snow Package for avid powder lovers including 20% or more savings on three or more days of lodging and lifts.
