With the start of the 2015/16 winter ski and snowboard season less than three weeks away, Mother Nature has provided an early winter treat of nearly a foot of Champagne Powder® snow at mid-mountain overnight and 17 inches in the past 48-hours.

“Mother Nature sure turned the switch to winter quickly in Steamboat,” said Rob Perlman, president and chief operating officer for the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. “With the fresh snow this week, snowmaking going in full force and additional storm systems forecasted over the coming days, the mountain is looking better and better as we head toward Opening Day.”

An overnight storm blew through Steamboat bringing 11 inches of fresh Champagne Powder® snow in the past 24-hours and 17 in the past 48-hours at mid-mountain.  At the summit, 7 inches has fallen in the past 24-hours and 14.5 inches in the past 48-hours.

A Hazardous Weather Outlook remains in effect with snow, heavy at times, continuing across the northern mountains including additional accumulations of 1 to 3 inches with higher amounts on favored west-facing slopes like Steamboat. The next significant storm arrives Monday afternoon.

“As this wintry weather pattern shift continues, funneling several storms over the coming days to Steamboat, resort crews are working under extreme wintery conditions to take full advantage of the weather,” commented Doug Allen, vice president of mountain operations. “Heavy machinery, snowmaking hose, guns and equipment along with snowcats are out in full force, so please help us and remain off the mountain.”

The resort is working towards Scholarship Day, its opening day tradition benefiting the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club on Wednesday, November 25.  Stay up to date on the start of the season as well as all things Steamboat by visiting www.steamboat.com or socially on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Pinterest.
