The sun is warm, the runs are empty, and it feels more like March than January today in Steamboat…welcome to Springuary.
After many cloudy days recently in Steamboat, today’s clear bluebird sky and warm sun feels simply amazing. The temperature practically feels like summer compared to the subzero temps we have been dealing with in the last few weeks. I haven’t laid eyes on the beautiful Yampa Valley bathing in the Colorado sun for quite some time; today’s views are absolutely stellar!
We arrived to a very uncrowded mountain today with free pick of the corduroy in every direction. We were surprised to find firm and fast conditions that resembled the springtime more so than mid-winter on most runs, even on sunnyside. We spent much of the morning exploring what the upper mountain had to offer for fast groomers. Most runs showed similar conditions no matter its position to the sun – all trails are warming up slowly, but the low winter sun isn’t giving in too easy just yet. I had a hard time paying attention to skiing today because I couldn’t take my eyes off the amazing view in every direction under clear skies – what a great place we play in.
We finished up the morning checking out our options on lower mountain that were manicured today – Vagabond, Daze, Lower Valley View and even a See Me lap – uncrowded, fun and fast. I sure do love carving fast turns on lower Vagabond – yyyyeeeewwwww!
It is a great day to get out there for some sunny cruisers and free music at the base area. The skiing will get better as the day goes on and the sun warms things up out there.
Pick of the mountain today is Rainbow – fast and empty!
See you on the mountain
