Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation Annual Community Grant Enters Eighth Year Granting $185,000

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO-February 10, 2015-Two integral Routt County organizations will share the 2016 Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation $20,000 Snowball Community Grant when Routt Country Humane Society and LiftUp of Routt County are honored on February 23, 2016.

“The Snowball Community Grant is an ideal way to support local organizations that do so much for Northwest Colorado,” said Rob Perlman president & chief operating officer of the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. “Both of these fantastic community organizations focus on locals, seasonal residents and individuals in need, in addition to the well-being of their most cherished companions. Our community is far better off with the work of organizations such as the Humane Society and LiftUp and their undivided efforts in helping others and their animals.”

The Snowball Community Grant annually awards funds to a local nonprofit agency or organization each spring. The grant emanates from the donor-advised Ski Corporation Charitable Fund, currently housed at the Yampa Valley Community Foundation. Over the past eight years, the Snowball Grant has provided $185,000 for local organizations.

“In today’s challenging financial environment, nonprofit organizations are called upon to a larger degree and are feeling a greater impact from current economic challenges,” continued Perlman. “The resort’s Snowball Community Grant provides additional resources to ensure that programs like these two outstanding organizations can gain exposure and improve the quality of life for all Northwest Colorado residents as well as their pets.”

HumaneRoutt County Humane Society: Established in 1985, the Routt County Humane Society, Inc., (RCHS) currently serves the welfare of animals in Routt County and operates the animal shelter in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Since its inception, the nonprofit organization has been dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals, providing humane education, promoting spaying and neutering as a means of decreasing the number of unwanted pets, and encouraging respect for the dignity and worth of all animals.

LiftUp of Routt County: LiftUp of Routt County is a grassroots nonprofit organization founded in May 1996 by the Steamboat Springs Ministerial Association and LiftUpseveral local church communities to provide charitable assistance for people in need.  The organization operates the Food Bank and Emergency Assistance programs in Steamboat Springs, South Routt
and Hayden, the Community Thrift Store and Lufkin LiftUp Center.

A reception will take place from 5:30-7pm on Tuesday, February 23, at the Haymaker Nordic Clubhouse to award the Snowball Grant as well as the Hazie Werner Award to longtime Steamboat resident Deb Werner. The Hazie Werner Award reception coincides with Hazie Werner’s birthday.

Past beneficiaries of the Snowball Community Grant include: Northwest Colorado Cultural Heritage Tourism, Hospice and Palliative Care, REPS (Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide), Community Agriculture Alliance, Integrated Community, Routt County 4-H, Boys & Girls Club, First Impressions, Jeffrey Allen Dye Suicide Prevention Project Endowment, Visiting Nurse Association and LiftUp of Routt County.
