This weekend will mark Steamboat's second Ski 4 Yellow event. Relatively new to the Livestrong Foundation, our Ski 4 Yellow events are gaining quick momentum. Locals Dave Nagel, Kerry Shae and the Steamboat Ski Resort Corporation have worked hard to make an incredible event, which directly benefits our local community.
Last year's event was quite the success. Sadly, my team didn't win, which I'd like to remedy this winter.
This may be shallow....but I'm calling on the brightest minds in Steamboat to help advise on our plan of attack. The rules have changed this year, which will prevent teams from only doing laps on Bashor all day long. (Yes, you know who I'm talking about. Cheaters. Not happy about it.)
If any of our genius minds want to lend their advise, I am all ears.
This year is even better as they have so wisely included some afternoon race runs in the NASTAR course. YES! Just in time for Nastar Nationals! I will be right in my element, waxed skis, speed suits and adrenaline. Everything I've training my whole life for...until a fast, little 10 year old beats me. But, until then...Let the games begin.
Joking aside, this event is dear to my heart. After losing a close friend, coach and mentor to cancer two years ago, I dedicated last year's event to him. The truth is my life will never be the same after working with Kevin Brown and will not be the same without his invigorating spirit. I am indebted to him. For me, these events continue to be in honor of him and his legacy, which include his wife and two kids left behind. It is a dear and true event for many families who have lost loved ones to cancer. We want to honor all of our and your own loved ones who know this fight.
Steamboat is unlike anywhere in the world. We know how to rally and support the causes we hold true. Ski 4 Yellow is one of these causes and I encourage everyone to get involved. It will impact so many lives.
SKi 4 Yellow is March 30-31.
