Your vacation planning community

If you want to truly experience a piece of Steamboat history and tradition, then you can’t miss this year’s 97th Annual Winter Carnival February 3rd – February 7th. The event, sponsored by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club to assist athletic programs, includes a variety of activities embracing our western heritage and Steamboat's tradition of winter sports.

It all began long ago in 1914 … residents of Routt County needed a way to help them cope with cabin fever during the height of the winter season. So, they created the Winter Carnival to celebrate the winter and as an opportunity for everyone to get together.

And almost a century later … The festivities continue with events such as Ski Jumping, a Snowboarding Jam Session, the Diamond Hitch Parade with the High School band on skis, the Street Events on Lincoln Avenue, the Night Extravaganza with the famous Lighted Man, and this year’s event will include the Olympian Send-Off as we send Steamboat’s Olympians off to Vancouver.

Winter Carnival Fun Fact:
How do they get all that snow on Lincoln Avenue for the Street Events? The City Public Works department has the street covered with 400 plus tons of snow by 6am each day of the Street Events.

So will this add new trails or just wide open mountainside? What lift would service the area? I do agree that Steamboat is not the best mountain for beginners so anything to help add more green runs would be a great thing!

The best time to buy your lift tickets is in June early booking is never early enough, really. But airfare wise, if you start too early you can be really gouged by the airlines. My January trip was booked in June and I've seen up to $200 per ticket…
