It takes a community - the kind of community like Steamboat with an Olympic tradition dating back to 1932 when John Steele became the first Steamboat Olympian. Known as Ski Town, U.S.A.®, Steamboat produces more Winter Olympians than any other town in North America. And, this year, Steamboat will send a number of amazing athletes to Vancouver, British Columbia including: Todd Lodwick, Johnny Spillane, Michael Morse and Taylor Fletcher to name a few.

Steamboat plans to honor them in style with the 2010 Olympian Send-Off & Community Celebration on Friday, February 5th, 2010 at 6:30pm during the
97th Annual Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival.
The event, held on Lincoln Avenue, will feature not only the athletes named to the Olympic teams, but also other notables, including network affiliate anchors and officials from the state and federal governments. Steamboat Olympian Fuzz Federsen’s Flying Aces will perform their high-flying acts where current and former aerials and moguls skiers launch themselves into the air using trampolines – sure to be a crowd pleaser!
Of course, no Olympian Celebration would be complete without a torch lighting ceremony. One of our very own Steamboat Olympians will have the honor of lighting a 20 foot tall Community Cauldron followed by fireworks from the rooftop of the Courthouse choreographed with a special Olympian video.
If you want to experience true Olympic tradition, then visit Steamboat and the 2010 Olympian Send-Off & Community Celebration! Oh, and don’t forget to watch the Steamboat hopefuls go for the gold February 12-28!
