Over Two Feet Of Champagne Powder® Snow Falls At Summit In Past Week
Four Feet Of Snow Falls During March & More Than 26 Feet Stacks Up for Season
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO-March 25, 2013-Steamboat’s 2012/2013 season cumulative snowfall moved past the 300-inch mark at mid-mountain due to a series of storms that blanketed the resort with nearly two feet of Champagne Powder® snow in the past week.
“Steamboat has some of the best snow in the Rocky Mountains and is currently enjoying mid-winter conditions even though the calendar says spring,” said Chris Diamond, president & chief operating officer for Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. “With two feet in the past week, Steamboat is definitely showing why it is the home of Champagne Powder snow and the place to be for skiing and riding this spring.”
Steamboat is in a storm cycle that as of 5am yielded 6 inches at mid-mountain and 5 inches at the summit in the past 48-hours; 21.5 inches at mid-mountain and 26 at the summit in the past week; and 46 inches at mid-mountain and 56.5 inches at the summit this month. The resort is reporting a 66-inch base at mid-mountain and 77-inch base at the summit on powder/packed powder conditions.
Since opening day, Steamboat has enjoyed snow 70 out of 125 days with 31 of those days recording four or more inches. So far this season at mid-mountain, the resort has seen 14.5” in October; 17” in November; 105.25” in December; 56.5 in January; 77” in February; and, 46” in March for a combined total of 316.25” (26.3 feet). As the resort heads into the final three weeks of the season, 100% of the mountain is open with 16 lifts and 165 trails covering 2,965 acres. A complete list of open mountain trails and lifts is available each morning.
“Spring is the best time of year to gather friends and family and spend time on the slopes,” continued Diamond. “Steamboat is making it easier than ever to do that with great packages and special spring passes. This is the time of year when everything lines up just right: great snow, longer days, incredible values and plenty of fun.”
