Christie Peak Express And Specially-Priced $20 Lift Tickets For Scholarship Day
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO-November 19, 2012-Steamboat will open its 50th winter season on Wednesday, November 21st with specially-priced $20 tickets for Scholarship Day, an Opening Day tradition benefiting the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.
“Whether it’s your first or 50th, Opening Day is truly magical as it represents a new beginning to a season full of unlimited possibilities and discovery,” said Chris Diamond, president and chief operating officer for the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. “This year, it carries even more significance, excitement and energy as we celebrate a historical milestone - 50 years of skiing and riding at the Steamboat Ski Area.”
The 50th Anniversary Season rolls out the ‘white carpet’ for guests with FREE Opening Day t-shirts to the first 100 individuals, FREE hot chocolate, and surprise gifts including free demos, dinners, 1st tracks and lift tickets found on random chairs on the Christie Peak Express. The Opening Day celebration continues at the Bear River Bar & Grill with special Happy Hour & BBQ (all-day); refresh at The Grand Spa with 20% off all retail (11/21-25); FREE Riglet Park snowboard experience on Saturday for the youngest riders; and, the start of the resort’s 50 Days Prize Extravaganza, featuring a boatload of prizes every day from Opening Weekend through the Steamboat’s anniversary date, January 12th.
Steamboat gives you a dozen more reasons to be in Ski Town, U.S.A.® for opening weekend as the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, a world famous music machine whose name is synonymous with genre-bending romps and high-octane performances, brings their New Orleans groovin’ big brass band style to the ‘Boat. A big anniversary requires big style and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band definitely delivers just that with their FREE show at 2pm on Saturday, Nov. 24th.

Christie Peak Express will begin whisking skiers and riders up the slopes at 8:30am on Wednesday. The resort anticipates opening four trails off Christie Peak including: Sitz, Vogue, Stampede, Jess’ Cut-Off as well as the Desperado learning area. For those looking to get their jib on, some features will be available at the top of Vogue until snowmaking on Lil’ Rodeo is completed. Please remember, Season & Pure passes and other passes are valid starting Thursday.
“Everyone needs to ski and ride with care, within their ability levels, and remember, unmarked obstacles and other natural terrain features may be encountered at any time,” said John Kohnke, patrol director. “Skiers and riders need to respect all closures and safety signage. It’s a long season and we want you enjoy every day, so DO NOT enter closed trails.”
With continued snowmaking and cold temperatures, along with additional natural snow, the resort will work towards opening a portion of Heavenly Daze and the Gondola over the holiday weekend, weather permitting. Lift tickets will move to $49 starting Thanksgiving; then lift ticket pricing will be adjusted when the Gondola begins operating for skiing and riding.
The $129 Boat Launch pass features three days of early season skiing and riding between Thanksgiving and December 14th. The Boat Launch pass must be purchased online or through Steamboat Central Reservations® 48-hours in advance of first use.
