STEAMBOAT HOSTS COLORADO PRO PATROL CONVENTION

Patrollers Meet To Exchange Ideas & Compete To Be Best Patrol In Colorado

 

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO-April 10, 2013-The best in the Colorado Pro Patrol business gather for two days at the Steamboat Ski Area in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, for the 42nd Annual Colorado Pro Patrol Convention, April 10-11, 2013.  The resort last hosted this professional group in 2003.

 

This annual conference brings together patrol staffs from Colorado resorts such as Aspen/Snowmass, Vail, Keystone, Winter Park, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Eldora, Arapahoe Basin, Monarch, Loveland and Wolf Creek, for a two-day conference that involves professional development, on-mountain competition and social events. 

 

“We are proud to host this elite group of ski industry professionals,” said John Kohnke, patrol director for the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation.  “During the conference, we have a chance to share ideas and working procedures, compete against each other and have some fun.”

 

The 42nd Annual Pro Patrol Conference kicks off today, Wednesday, April 10th with afternoon registration and a patrol director’s meeting followed by on-mountain competitions in a variety of categories during the day on Thursday, April 11th.   Registration is limited to current professional patrollers and proof of employment is required.

 

Individual patrol members, teams and canines will compete in Giant Slalom, Toboggan Race, King/Queen of the Mountain Competition, Avalanche Bomb Toss and Bamboo Toss.  In addition, demonstrations by Flight for Life Helicopter crews and an Avalanche/Rescue Dog Skills and Expo will round out the day. 

 

These events test the on-mountain skills utilized daily by patrol focusing on skiing, toboggan transport, explosive accuracy, avalanche rescue and overall athletic ability. An overall winner is determined at the conclusion of the event and awarded the Overall Outstanding Colorado Patrol Cup.  

 

“The competitions are a great opportunity for each team to show off their talents in a friendly environment,” said Kohnke.  “But when it is all said and done, the conference provides the ideal situation for professional development, team building and celebrating what it means to be a Colorado patroller.”

1:00pm Toboggan Race (teams of 3), Top of Morningside Lift
2:30pm King/Queen of the Mountain, Top of Morningside Lift
