With temperatures expected in the mid 50's by this afternoon, Steamboat has definitely gotten a taste of spring fever. We started out the week with a healthy dose of winter and had fresh powder for three days straight. All powder days aside, it's time for some fun in the sun. Lather up the sunblock and get ready for a rocking concert this afternoon. It's another fantastic morning in the Yampa Valley and it's shaping up to be a wonderful day.
The sun was shinning bright and the skies were near bluebird as I strapped my ski on this morning. I headed over to the Sunshine area for some early morning cruisers. With air temperatures already in the lower 30's the snow was softening with every run. One O'Clock, Two' O'Clock and High Noon were all groomed last night and will be in fantastic shape in less than an hour. My runs were firm, but your runs won't. With most of the runs still in the shadows and the sun gently peaking through the trees, I made my way down each run. My freshly tuned skis held a solid edge in the firm snow as a curved grand GS turns down each. It was a quiet morning on the slopes and the First Track's crowd decided to sleep in.
Heading over to the Storm Peak side, I found similar conditions. The groomers are going to be great, but the slopes still need to warm up a few degrees. I stopped and snapped this fun shot of the Four Points Hut. This wonderful warming hut is going to get a major face lift and by next year this view will look totally different. Make sure to stop by for one last beer, soda or brownie before she's closed for good. We look forward to the next Four Points and the fun times we'll all have on her deck in the sun.
Heading down Heavenly Daze for my final run, I found the snow already softening and the temperatures beginning to rise. It's going to be a great day on the slopes. Make sure to stay hydrated and keep the sunblock handy. Don't forget to catch the fun concert at the base area. This event is free to everyone and should be a very entertaining concert. Happy Spring!
