Steamboat Bike Park Prepares For Mountain Summer Season - Downhill Trails Open June 15
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO-June 7, 2012–As the last snow melts and the flowers bloom, Steamboat turns from Ski Town, U.S.A.® to Bike Town, USA; and this season is extra special as the resort officially ushers in the Steamboat Bike Park, featuring downhill, freeriding bike terrain designed by industry leaders Gravity Logic. With new high intensity biking adventure added to the mix of casual mountain fun, Steamboat is the place to be this summer.
“Steamboat has always been an ideal summer vacation destination for the entire family,” says Rob Perlman, senior vice president of sales & marketing for Steamboat Ski Resort & Corporation. “This year, summer brings two key enhancements to the base area with the Promenade and the resort’s new bike park. Now everyone can find the type of adventure they are looking for; whether it’s heart-thumping mountain biking, leisurely exploring or a romantic mountain getaway.”
In advance of the summer season, the cross country trails from mid-mountain to the base area will open this weekend and include Creekside, Why Not (uphill only), Valley View, Yoo Hoo, Zig Zag and Spur Run. In addition, the Thunderhead Hiking Trail, with its newly completed trail down Headwall, will also be ready this weekend.
Gondola operations and the Steamboat Bike Park downhill trails are set to open on Friday, June 15th. Five downhill trails (Tenderfoot, Sitz, Wrangler Gulch, E-Z Rider and Buckin’ Bronc) will be ready starting June 15th, and an additional downhill trail from mid-mountain, Rustler’s Ridge, is currently under construction and slated for completion next month. A Bike Access ticket is required to access the Steamboat Bike Park downhill trails, open during gondola operations, as well as utilize the Gondola for bike uplift. The summer trail map outlines bike, hike and multi-use trails as well as directional uses.
The Ski Area’s summer season officially kicks off on June 15th, with the opening of the Gondola, Steamboat Bike Park and Coca Cola Adventure Zone for the weekend, followed by daily activities beginning June 21st. Summer activities operate from 11 am to 5 pm daily through August 19th, then weekends through September 30th. Celebrate the beginning of the mountain summer season with the Free Family Fun Fest on Saturday, June 16th from 10am to 2pm with FREE Adventure Zone activities plus, half price Gondola rides for adults.
The mountain is summer central with the new Promenade, a multi-million dollar project which includes the day-lighted Burgess Creek, Steamboat Stage and pedestrian corridor connecting Gondola Square, Torian Plum Plaza and Ski Time Square. The Promenade is the main access point for the Gondola which takes guests up to 9,000 feet for incredible views, mid-mountain dining and access to hiking and biking trails.
