STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO-August 29, 2013-Stay up late this winter in Steamboat while enjoying a new night skiing and riding experience with a special $39 add-on upgrade for Steamboat unlimited or full season pass holders.  Nightly ticket rates and other pricing program for night skiing for the 2013/14 season were also illuminated.

“Night skiing has come a long way with technology advancements,” said Rob Perlman, senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. “We want folks to come out and enjoy the energy and excitement this new amenity will bring the base area and it’s the driving force behind offering such an attractive introductory program.”

Steamboat’s night experience will see a variety of pricing options for skiers and snowboarders looking to take advantage of this new opportunity. Season pass holders will enjoy the entire night season simply with a $39 upgrade to their season pass if purchased before September 30th; $49 between October 1 and December 31; and $70 after December 31st.  College and senior age season pass categories will also be able to access the upgrade special rates. Steamboat-6 and -15 holders may purchase walk-up night tickets at advance purchase rates throughout the season.

For parents who received a free child pass with their adult season pass purchase, Kids Ski Free applies for night skiing as well. When a parent or legal guardian with an adult Steamboat Season Pass purchases the night add-on, one child (12 & under) will receive a FREE child night skiing add-on to their season pass as part of the Kids Ski Free Pass Program.

Steamboat’s night-only season pass priced at $199, that’s less than $4.50 a night, ensures you don’t miss an evening during the inaugural season.  The window rate for night skiing will start at $29 and the advance purchase rate will be $20 for a one-night ticket.

With the Promenade improvements and the associated positive momentum across the mountain village, the resort will install lighting to provide night skiing and riding from the top of Christie Peak via the Christie Peak Express chairlift to the base area. Roughly 1,100 vertical feet of terrain is expected to be available on several trails including Sitz, See Me/See Ya, Vogue, Stampede and Lil’ Rodeo Terrain Park.

Since night skiing first emerged on the scene, lighting technology has made dramatic advancements. Steamboat Ski Area will utilize new technology developed by Ultra-Tech™ Lighting that significantly improves the night skiing experience. The system employs a comprehensive line of magnetic induction lighting (MIL) specifically tailored to address the complexities and unique requirements of illuminating snow in all its varieties while minimizing glare and reflected light visible by the community and adjacent property owners.

The resort anticipates operating at night on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for approximately three hours from 5:30pm to 8:30pm and 6:00pm to 9:00pm in the spring. Hours of operation may expand to additional nights during holidays and special time periods. When the lifts start turning at night and guest enjoy their first turns on the slopes under the lights, Steamboat will join a select group of resorts offering this unique experience.
