Rinse, Repeat

Here we go again... another storm full of fluffy snow is scheduled to arrive later today blessing Steamboat and the Yampa Valley with the good stuff.  But while we wait in anticipation for the storm to show up, there are plenty of smooth groomers to keep everyone smiling.

Steamboat has been measuring new snow in feet over the last few weeks which means that on the days it isn't snowing, the groomers are staying soft allowing for near effortless turns on the fresh corduroy.  I always recommend picking up a grooming report when you get to the mountain as it will direct you towards the most recently groomed runs; especially the runs that don't get done very often and can be a nice treat.  Longhorn is one of my favorite cruisers when it has fresh corduroy...  I think I am one of the only people that saw it was groomed today and enjoyed a few awesome laps with no one else around.

Other randoms that are groomed today include Center Field, Hurricane, Cyclone, Upper and Lower Valley View... just to name a few.  My skis cut through each line of corduroy on the mountain like a hot knife through butter; so smooth and easy.  Many of these runs offered solitude with no other skiers to be seen, allowing for huge arcing turns across the entire slope.  I stopped a few times this morning just to enjoy the simple silence and amazing landscape of the surrounding valley and mountains.  I like skiing solo sometimes because I can take quiet moments like that vs. skiing with friends where it can offer a more social experience on the mountain that is anything but silence.

Pick of the mountain today is Longhorn - it is skiing smooth, the snow is soft, and it got looked over by other early morning skiers.

We are looking at the potential of a foot or more of new snow between this afternoon and Friday, so come rip some cruisers before we repeat another great snow storm in Steamboat.
