There is nothing like a powder day. Period.
I don't care what activity you participate in, there is nothing as beautiful, delicate, and fragile as a new blanket of snow on the ground.
Which brings me to today... The 5am report gave no indication to expect anything spectacular, but a typical spring no new snow, mild temperatures, light wind & overcast day. But then things changed in a big way. The skies opened up and began dumping snow - 3" of fresh, new fluff had been measured on all the stakes by 8:30. By 10:30 we were up to 5 new inches. Oh, did I forget to mention it's a POWDER DAY IN THE 'BOAT!
I felt like I was in on some kind of 'new snow secret' and at about 2 hours old, this snow was as new as it could possibly get. I made my way over to Sunshine Peak to take advantage of the situation. I don't mean to rub it in, but not a lot of people knew there was fresh snow and I practically had the place to myself. I cruised lap after lap braiding and parallelling the tracks I could so easily see in the powder.
The season is too quickly coming to an end, so be sure to be here for the weekend's closing fun - and maybe even another powder day to put under your belt!
Enjoy and have a great off-season!Amy Kopischke
