Rainy skies didn’t dampen the energy of this weekend’s Oktoberwest Fest. While walking through Gondola Plaza I was met with familiar faces and excitement for another great event here in Steamboat Springs. Once again this was another first for me!
The Drew Emmitt Band brought smiles to everyone as we enjoyed the music, beer and even a little sun. Steamboat and Colorado beer distributors brought their brewing best. Butcherknife Brewing, a local beer company donned their authentic lederhosen and great tasting brew. Various lamb dishes from top area restaurants were on the tasting ballot and I didn’t hesitate to try them all. Delish! Pie eating contests and a mechanical bull riding competition rounded out the weekend festivities. (I thankfully stayed away from the mechanical bull after my earlier experience involving ripped pants!)
Impressively the Run Rabbit Run ultra marathon racers made their way across 50 miles of difficult terrain and conditions to finish at the base area. They all have my highest admiration and it doesn’t look like anything I would want to do. Wow! My knees hurt just thinking about it.
Events like these always seem to bring together people that I haven’t seen for years. I wonder where have we all been hiding!? Thankfully, the Steamboat Chamber and Mountain Village Partnership (MVP) have worked together making these incredible events where we all can catch up and enjoy good beer, music and fantastic food.
If you missed it this year, you definitely missed out. (We had a dancing penguin doing some kind of jig and promises to be back.) Make sure you join us again next year for Steamboat’s own Oktoberwest. I may even break out my accordion and yodel. Honest.
