Nothin' but TREES!

With three inches of new snow last night, and a few consecutive days of fresh snow this week, the conditions here in Steamboat are starting to feel like a typical wintry February! Now that the freezing temps have moved out of the Yampa Valley, Mother Nature has graced us with warmer temps which only translates to bigger flakes! The colder temps at Steamboat Resort provide the magic ingredient for our Champagne Powder and it shows.

I challenged myself to ski only in the trees today. Not necessarily having to search for powder stashes, but more realistically capitalizing on all the snow that's lying patiently in the aspens waiting for me to come rip through! I started my morning in the Twilight trees and found fresh tracks from top to bottom.

From there I made my way over to Hurricane trees and again found nothing but POWDER! Not to mention that I didn't see another soul in the woods! The indescribable feeling of floating through powder, in the most perfectly-spaced trees in the world, on a magical day in blissful Steamboat may just be one of my most favorite experiences in life.

Another run off Pony Express lift finished off a successful day of only-tree skiing! How many other resorts in the country can you concur the same challenge? Not many--if any.

I send continued best wishes to the members of the U.S. Ski Team competing in Vancouver! Hopefully Vonn, Mancuso, Miller and Ligety will continue to shine!
