Mountain Tweets, or, Steamboat now on Twitter

Steamboat Resort is now on Twitter! Follow us so you can receive relevant and timely information while you're on or near the slopes. This Twitter feed will include the latest snow, temperature, wind, base, lift and trail-related info right on your mobile phone.

You need to do three things to receive the daily tweets from steamboatinfo on your mobile phone.

1. Have a twitter account and make sure your phone is setup for that account
2. Go to our feed home page on Twitter and click on "Follow" beneath the Steamboat Ski Town USA flag icon
3. Just to the right of "Follow" click on "Device updates off". That will open an Ajaxy window and you just need to select "Device updates on".

Voila!

Now you will start receiving thrice-daily (more or less) tweets from the resort including snow, temp, wind, trail/lift info. We may use steamboatinfo for some other types of tweets now and again, but the main purpose is to provide our customers with up-to-the-minute information that is pertinent to being on the mountain.

If you don't want to receive tweets from us on your mobile phone, you can still "follow" steamboatinfo and just leave the "Device Updates" turned off. They're turned off by default, so if you initially follow us, our updates will only appear on your Twitter homepage. Our guess is that most folks will send updates to their phones only when in town, but stay following our tweets while not here either via their own Twitter homepage, our Twitter homepage, or the handy steamboatinfo RSS feed that the folks at Twitter have kindly provided.

We've also received requests for this type of information on my.steamboat.com, and now thanks to the magic of RSS and Twitter, you'll soon see the above Twitter stream right on the my.steamboat.com homepage.

NOTE: For Twitter newbies, there's always the Twitter FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions).

Usually kids don't want to wear the hood thing, but carry it in your pocket just in case. If it's really cold once you get on there on the slopes, I'll bet you big money that'll change.

Hard to predict of course but history is on your side. Be glad you didn't plan a trip around opening day at Vail today. They've got only one run open.

Temps have been great for snowmaking and we definitely have more snow this year than we had last year. I wouldn't worry, we tend to get dumped on in December. Here's a good article about late starts and how the season turns out.

I have been checking the cameras lately, and there does not appear to be alot of snow on the mountain, and not much in the forecast? Getting nervous about our trip out December 18th. Anything to worry about?

I agree with the balaclava. If your boys are going to wear helmets, which they should, then you can buy a nice under helmet hat/balaclava, a must in Steamboat. The key to keeping warm on the mountain is layers. (and toe warmers!)

I ski with my boys every January in Steamboat (now 10 & 8) and they wear the whole kit every day since they stay up top most the whole day ... base layer top and bottom, fleece top (& bottom if it's Arctic cold), and down jacket. They used to wear...

Actually, we may book the Ore House, having had a vote from the children! We skied a couple of years ago at Christmas and it was very cold. Usually we go in March. Thermals are a definite, if it's really cold I'll make the children wear a long sle...
