STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO-February 5, 2013-The Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation will present the 2013 Hazie Werner Award for Excellence to long-time Yampa Valley resident, Marsha Daughenbaugh, on Friday evening, February 22, 2013.

“Marsha has focused her professional 35-year career on maintaining the vitality of the agricultural community throughout the Yampa Valley,” said Chris Diamond, president and chief operating officer of the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. “Through all her community giving, activism and personal perseverance, she embodies the can-do spirit and personal characteristics of Hazie Werner: hard working, kind, unassuming and generous.”

During Steamboat’s 50th Anniversary Season, Marsha Daughenbaugh will become the 25th woman honored with the Hazie Werner Award for Excellence. Currently, Daughenbaugh serves as Executive Director of the Community Agriculture Alliance. Bringing with her a deep-rooted heritage and love of the Yampa Valley, she has championed the agricultural elements of the Yampa Valley around the state and across the nation, ensuring it remains a vital part of the economy.

Daughenbaugh’s professional and leadership experience and skills are evident in the exceptional organizations she has been involved with. For 25 years, she worked with the United States Department of Agriculture's, Farm Service Agency (FSA), while also being an active member in Routt County Cattle Women, the National and State Associations for FSA County Employees, a volunteer for the Routt County 4-H Youth Program, and an active Youth Leader for the United Methodist Church. Her dedication to agriculture led her to Washington DC numerous times to discuss agriculture-related issues with Congressional representatives.

Her family has been active in the community since 1937, and continues to own and operate Rocking C Bar Ranch, a working cattle ranch west of Steamboat Springs. As a third generation ranching family, her interests are vested in the further partnerships with the community’s resort, business, and agricultural entities to assure agriculture's longevity throughout the Yampa Valley for future generations. The Ranch has been recognized by the Colorado Riparian Association, the Colorado Wildlife Commission, The Colorado Division of Wildlife, the Yampa River Legacy Committee and Environment 2000 for their efforts in soil, water and wildlife management.

A reception will take place from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Friday, February 22nd in the Mountain View Foyer at the Steamboat Grand. This award, which began in 1989, is named after Hazie Werner, a local legend in the Yampa Valley for her inspirational dedication, gracious and caring giving philosophy, volunteer work and tireless commitment to a multitude of children, families and organizations. The Hazie Werner Award reception coincides with Hazie Werner’s birthday.
