Good Tuesday to ya from Steamboat! I just had a great morning on the mountain. The snow was soft, the air was crisp, and the snow guns were gunnin'!
If you've lived in or visited Steamboat for more than a few seasons then you know a few things to be true:
1. A few small inches of snow can make a BIG difference
2. A dry November can make for an epic Winter (praying to Ullr, snow dances, car washes, etc. all tend to help)
3. If you go up to Strawberry Park after dark....nevermind
The 3 precious inches of snow that dropped on Monday greatly improved conditions from when I skied here over the weekend. The cold temperatures overnight and into the morning have helped to keep that snow firm but forgiving and have allowed the man made snow and stellar grooming to fill in and cover the rest. The top of the Daze this morning was soft and I could finally really lay into my edges for sharp, concise turns that I haven't trusted the snow to allow for yet this season. Vogue is firm and fast, especially on the far right side toward the bottom. Drop your skis at one of the shops at the base for an edge and wax if you're finding it really difficult to dig in or you're sliding a lot.
I was feeling frisky and excited after all those fast laps so I went for a little box session in the park on my way out. The storm tracks are looking favorable in the next week for Steamboat! My advice is to get up early and get the goods!
