Today is a game changer for Steamboat.

Last night dumped a foot of fresh on the mountain, bringing things back to the way Steamboat should be.

Every run offered deep turns leaving nothing but cold smoke against a bluebird Colorado sky in the wake of each passing skier.  It felt amazing to have that Champagne Powder in my face, caking my beard in snow and covering my entire body like a blanket each and every turn.  Everyone was yelling in excitement this morning in celebration of the deep conditions - it is no doubt the best day of the season so far.

It is pretty cold out there, and skis are sticking to the snow requiring some effort to get those turns in.  If you can, throw some cold weather wax on your boards before you come up; it will make a huge difference.   But every bit of effort is worth it, because it is simply awesome out there today.  The sun is slowly warming things up, but dress for chilly temps.

We spent most of the morning over on Sundown lift, which was a good call.  Sundown Express is my favorite lift on the mountain; it offers a very fast chairlift ride covering a good amount of vertical and accesses some of our best runs and trees.  It is fluffy and deep over there today, and was great getting back into some classic Steamboat tree skiing through the perfect aspens that we are known for.

Pick of the mountain today is Closet - it's deep, untracked and AWESOME.

There are still some natural obstacles out there, so please still ski with some caution - but it's becoming time to let it rip!

See you on the mountain!

Your post really nailed it today. My time on the hill woulda been nicer if I made it up a few hours earlier, but noon till two was still fantastic. Bluebird and a great surface with powder hits.
