Giddy Up Winter

Whip your horse into shape and giddy up to the mountain today.  Eight inches of fresh powder fell from the skies and we now have something to brag about.

On my first run this morning I was reminded of a feeling I hadn't felt on the slopes in quite some time.  It was the feeling of "float."  Yep... my skies were actually floating on top of what turned out to be an impressive dump of early season fluff.  Flakes of snow flew up and over my skies as I whipped from edge to edge in an elated state.  There were a few new faces in the early morning crowd also.  I guess I wasn't the only one roused out of bed today with thoughts of untracked runs for the early birds.

As the morning wore on, the snow got more and more packed in.  This is great for the overall condition of the mountain and that much more relevant to those who got up for the first tracks.  Carving an edge on my subsequent runs was on par with what we've experienced the past few days now.  Packed powder and groomed trails.  None the less fun however.   The ability to sink an edge more deeply into the surface was apparent no matter which trail I was on.  There's a delicate softness to the ski surface which I imagine will last all day.

Looking at tomorrow's weather forecast it appears we are still in the midst of a storm system.  With a 50% chance of snow tomorrow day and night and highs in the 20's I'm assuming the next few days on the mountain will be tremendous.  So get out there and grab some fresh snow while you can.
