Hello from a stunning blue bird and powder filled day in Steamboat!

Winter is definitely back in the Yampa Valley and things are looking great around here after Mother Nature left nearly 2 feet of fresh snow over the past few days that has now cleared to blue skies.  What an amazing difference from my last report only a week ago.  The thing about Steamboat Ski Area is that one or two big storms turns this place upside down and takes it from a mountain full of groomers to a mountain full of powder!  There are a lot of fun things to do in life, but riding powder under a clear mountain sky sure is at the top of my list.

Big news today is that 4 Points lift is now open!  That means we have access to a ton of fun trails like Cyclone, Tornado, Nelsons, Twister and Hurricane.   If you showed up early today for the opening, you likely were rewarded with a powder filled smile lap after lap.  When I came in for this report just after 10am, there were still plenty of fresh turns to be had on most trails under 4 Points.  I will have to say that the coverage up there exceeded my expectations, and all trails were riding great!

And not to spoil one of your Christmas presents early, but Storm Peak is opening tomorrow!  That means we will have top to bottom skiing in Steamboat with a great variety of trails open offering everything from smooth buttery corduroy groomers to powder and bumps.  The mountain is really starting to take shape for the ski season and everyone seems pretty happy right now.  The forecast shows some more snow headed our way in just a few days, so the very near future is looking good as well!

Pick of the mountain today is Cyclone - it was deep this morning and stayed untracked for a bit.

Please be careful up on the mountain as early season conditions do exist with unmarked obstacles.  Although the powder is fun and deep, it never hurts to ride with caution; we have a long season ahead.  Think about staying out of the trees until we get a little more coverage.

Put some sunscreen on, grab your powder boards and get up here, it's awesome!

See you on the mountain!
