While the highest concentration of beginner and intermediate terrain can be found on Sunshine Peak, some of the best family ski runs (along with the best views) are hidden amongst the advanced and expert terrain off Storm Peak.

If intermediate groomers are what your family loves to ski, then head over to Storm Peak Express for fun family skiing.  For my warm up run today, Frying Pan in Morningside Bowl was spectacular.  Before I dropped in to the freshly groomed intermediate run, I looked toward the south and east to admire the mountains.  The sun was shining and the skies were a crisp Colorado cobalt blue.  I could see all the way over to the mountains surrounding Steamboat's sister resort, Winter Park.  This is one of my favorite views at Steamboat.  Dropping into Frying Pan, my skis easily carved across the softening snow.  I weaved turns across the run until it met up with Cowboy Coffee, another family friendly route.

After riding the Morningside Lift, I hopped off and admired Sleeping Giant and Hahn's Peak to the north and west.  I met up with some families skiing together on Over Easy.  Little kids and their "big kid" parents were enjoying making turns and spending time together.  I often see the little ones pushing their parents to break through to the next level.  It is amazing how fearless children are.

Over Easy drops skiers and riders onto Buddy's Run.  Buddy's is my favorite groomer off Storm Peak Express.  Buddy's is a great place to learn and practice because it is wide and has several pitches with natural places to stop and rest.  The snow was firmer on Buddy's this morning, but will be soft by noon.  My turns took me down the sunny left side of the run.  I took a deep breath and could smell the pine trees that filled the air with their fragrance.  Other family friendly cruisers to check out on Upper Mountain are: Snooze Bar, Big Meadow, Calf Roper, Rainbow, and Dusk.

Did you wake up to that crisp Colorado cobalt blue sky without clouds?  That is a sign to take your time getting ready, enjoy a good breakfast, and let the sun soften up the snow.  Making family memories of skiing together on a warm Steamboat spring afternoon cannot be beat!

See you on  the slopes,
