Some quick afternoon laps w/Lev & Kent. First run was Rudi's>>Lightning>>Ego>>Storm Peak chair. Almost no line there, so after a quick ride up to the peak we popped into the "office" and started heading on down SideBurn.
This was our first time riding/skiing together this season, so got separated. For my part I stayed in the trees most of the way down, and popped out about half way down Sunset. Once on sunset I was able to spot Kent, but we didn't see Lev even after arriving at the BC/Storm chair junction.
My third run was a repeat due to the fact that SideBurn was only about 75% tracked out. There were still long stretches of foot-deep light powder. The previous day's storm and cool temps made these leftovers quite tasty. After a bunch of texts Lev was located and we agreed to repeat the SideBurn run. After meeting up in the office and starting out we once again got separated, this time because the snow was too deep and I didn't have enough speed to climb up thru the trees at the Dusk/Rainbow intersection. So I pointed my board down hill and road thru the trees towards Sunset>>Duster and met up at Rainbow. We then busted down Rainbow and grabbed a BC lift setting us up for our final and again, surprisingly awesome commute back on Upper Valley View>>Jess's Cutoff>>Vogue>>base.
An observation regarding the iPhone text messaging interface: Time-stamping on incoming/outgoing messages would have been nice. Am pretty sure the temporal fuzziness around our messages was part of why we kept missing each other.
The first snow of the season dusted the Steamboat Ski Resort on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, one week after fall officially arrived. Steamboat is set to open the 2014/15 season on Wednesday, November 26.
