National Acts Headline Public Concerts During MusicFest, Ski Jam, Family Snow Festival & Cowboy Downhill

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO-January 1, 2009-From Country to Rock to Reggae and Pop, the best in the music business will headline numerous public concerts during several of Ski Town, U.S.A.’s® signature events including MusicFest, Ski Jam, Steamboat Family Snow Festival and the 35th Bud Light Cowboy Downhill throughout December and January.

“Great music harmonizing with great events will only elevate these programs to an entirely new level,” Rob Perlman, vice president-sales & marketing for Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. “Couple these shows with the upcoming spring Bud Light Rocks the Boat Free Concert Series tradition and Steamboat is definitely living up to its reputation as the Music Capital of the Rockies.”

Steamboat will play host to the following musical acts over the next two months. All shows with the exception of the FREE Jack Ingram & Micky and the Motorcars show will take place in the Steamboat Music Tent, located in the Knoll Parking lot.

MUSICFEST EXTENDED

January 9-Jack Ingram & Micky and the Motorcars-Gondola Square at 1:30pm (FREE)
Jack Ingram was named “Top New Male Vocalist” at the 43rd Annual Academy of Country Music Awards. Five hit singles and six major tours later, Ingram is now established as one of the best-drawing bands on the lucrative Texas Music circuit. Micky and the Motorcars are currently speeding across the Americana horizon with an already loyal following in tow. The alt-country quintet had plenty of time to make Naïve, their brand new studio album.

January 10-Cory Morrow Band opening for Pure Prairie League at 7pm ($15/person)
Born and raised in Texas, a decade spent writing and performing a string of self-released albums has made Cory Morrow a major attraction in the Southwest’s musical landscape. Pure Prairie League, named after a women’s temperance group in the 1939 Errol Flynn movie ‘Dodge City’, established itself as a successful country-rock band during the 1970s and early ‘80s, releasing ten albums and enjoying hits that included "Amie" and "Let Me Love You Tonight."

January 11-The Gougers opening for Reckless Kelly at 7:00pm ($10/person)
The Gougers’ latest album, A Long Day For The Weathervane, resulted in the group’s storming of the Americana charts, hitting the Top 10 and gaining the four-piece airplay on prestigious Austin outlets with the breakout single "Everybody Knows." Reckless Kelly began making waves in Texas shortly after moving to Austin from Bend, Oregon. They’ve built a fiercely loyal fan base in the Lone Star state and western territories, including the brothers’ native Idaho, but they’re captivating new audiences in Chicago, New York, the Southeast (including the N.C. home of their new label, Yep Roc), and even industry-hardened Nashville.

SKI JAM

January 14-Jonathan Tyler and The Northern Lights at 7pm & The Wailers at 8:45pm ($20 pre-sale)
Something magical happens when you combine the ferocity of youthful abandon with the serenity of an old soul. Enter Jonathan Tyler and The Northern Lights, a soul singing and fiercely hard rocking band. Together with Bob Marley, The Wailers have sold in excess of 250 million albums worldwide. For this show, The Wailers perform the legendary album EXODUS.

January 15-The Greencards at 7pm & South Austin Jug Band at 8:45pm ($15 pre-sale)
Four short years ago, a green card was an immigration document - now The Greencards are an acoustic music phenomenon that has played around the world, headlined major festivals, won awards and toured with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson! South Austin Jug Band, the no-jug quintet that’s grown way past its traditional roots, has music writers enthused over the smart, nimble-fingered original songs and Beck cover on its new album, the self-produced Strange Invitation released April 1

January 16-Band of Heathens at 5:55pm; Todd Snider at 7:30pm & Sam Bush at 9pm ($20 pre-sale)
The Band of Heathens just released their self-titled studio debut and as of press time, it sits at #4 on the Americana Chart. For twelve years, Todd Snider has been a satirist, class cutup and the rare artist who understands and celebrates the connections between the Stones, Dylan, Bill Hicks, John Prine, Mitch Hedberg, Kris Kristofferson, Hunter S. Thompson and Randy Newman. Though he admits a certain discomfort with the moniker King of Newgrass, Sam Bush has more than earned it and certainly has been one of the most brilliant of newgrass's many bright lights.

Ski Jam tickets may be purchased individually or a Full Festival pass may be purchased for $39 per person until January 6. After January 6, the Festival Pass price increases to $49 per person. Full Festival pass is valid for all Bear River "After the Chill" shows, as well as Music Tent shows.

FAMILY SNOW FESTIVAL

January 17-Smash Mouth at 6:30pm ($25/adult and $15/12& under)
Collectively Smash Mouth has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide. Along with their number one hits – Walkin’ on the Sun and All Star – they have consistently impacted radio with other recognizable hits like Then the Morning Comes, Can’t Get Enough Of You Baby, and a cover of The Monkees classic I’m a Believer, which was prominently featured on the Shrek soundtrack (#4, Billboard Adult Top 40). “You can’t miss the live show,” states Paul DeLisle. “The live show completes the entire package. Recordings are only one part of the whole. This band must be seen to be believed. It’s a nonstop party that we put on nightly. If we’re coming to your town it’s a party you won’t want to miss. It’s unique, it’s ours, we created it and there’s no one else like us.”

January 18-Mitchel Musso at 6:30pm ($20/person)
Widely recognized for his role on the Disney’s hit show “Hanna Montana,” Mitchel Musso will make his only Colorado winter appearance during this festival. Recently, his cover of “Lean on Me” which featured a music video for the Disney Channel and The Snow Buddies DVD has been topping the charts on the Top 30 on Radio Disney. In May 2008, the DisneyMania 6 CD (Walt Disney Records) was released which includes the duet with Musso and Emily Osment, “If I Didn’t Have You.” This past summer Musso has been busy touring with his band and dancers, recording his album, and has filmed his role as Oliver Oken in the Hannah Montana feature film.

35TH BUD LIGHT COWBOY DOWNHILL

January 19-Charlie Daniels Band at 7pm ($25/person) benefiting The Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund
Few individuals have symbolized the South in popular culture as directly and indelibly as Charlie Daniels. When you hear a classic Charlie Daniels Band performance like “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” you hear music that knows no clear genre. Is it a folk tale? A southern boogie? A country fiddle tune? An electric rock anthem? The answer is “yes” to all of that and more. And the same goes for “In America,” “Uneasy Rider,” “The South's Gonna Do It,” “Long Haired Country Boy,” “Still in Saigon,” “The Legend of Wooley Swamp,” and the rest of a catalog that spans 50 years of record making and represents more than 20 million in sales.
