It's a beautiful Tuesday in Steamboat!

On my first hot lap of the morning, as the sun crested over Storm Peak and warmed up the valley below, I couldn't help but sit in awe that we live and ski in such a special place.  It was so peaceful and serene as I loaded up for a early run before meeting friends for turns this morning.  Steam rising from the rooftops, the last of the snowcats leaving their smooth lines on the slope, and an entire mountain waiting patiently and still for today's flock to arrive and have an amazing day of skiing. One of my favorite parts of ski season is knowing that while I'm at work during the week, the lifts are turning, there are skiers skiing, someone is always out on the hill buzzing with the spirit and energy of winter playtime.  The thought just makes me smile.

The Daze was the perfect warm up run with its almost endless cord; just when you think your legs are going to implode you get to the bottom and can recover before See Me.  I met up with a friend and my sister for a few upper mountain laps; we checked the grooming report and made our way to Sunset and Rainbow via 4 Points before heading up Storm.  The conversation today ranged mostly from "Wow, it's absolutely stunning up here today," to "Wow, that was SO FUN!"  No one ever said skiing required big words or deep thoughts to make your point.   The view is absolutely endless on a day like today, try spotting Mount Sopris and Capital Peak to our south the next time you are at the top of Sundown.

We hit High Noon to West Side where I will say the softness of the snow was surprising.  There was more of a buttery texture than we were expecting and it was delicious!

It's a picture perfect day on the mountain, so if you can break away from work, kids, underwater basket weaving, or whatever has you too busy to ski, do it!

Quick tip:  it was frosty when I got dressed at the car this morning so I added an extra layer (pretty sure I was having a flashback to last week) not knowing there was a balmy inversion in effect at mid-mountain.   Wish I could stay up here all day!

Enjoy.
