Greetings from a day of fresh tracks in the Boat!
While the fresh snow isn't very deep today, it still stacked up in my book. It's Steamboat's 50th Birthday this week, and the best kind of powder is birthday powder. I also share the birthday calendar with Steamboat this week, as today marks a new year in my life and I am happy to be celebrating this day with some fresh turns in Steamboat. I can't say that I have quite as many candles on my cake as Steamboat does, but it is always a good sign for the year ahead when it snows on your birthday.
The groomers were in prime condition this morning to rip some big open turns like a kid tears through wrapping paper opening birthday gifts. Lap after lap, we enjoyed endless fun turns on perfectly manicured corduroy with a nice dusting of frosting on top leaving nothing behind us but cold smoke similar to birthday candles after the party gets started. The snow is still in great condition and skiing very consistently - my skis carved turns into the soft snow like sinking your teeth into a nice piece of yummy birthday cake. The cold temps have kept things in prime condition on all parts of the mountain, so you really can't go wrong today. The groomers are probably the best call right now, but there is enough fresh snow in the trees to have a good time.
Pick of the mountain today is Cyclone - it's groomed, smooth and fast!
The sun is coming up, the clouds are breaking and it's time to head up for some blue bird Steamboat skiing on soft snow.
See you on the mountain!
