BIG HEAD TODD & THE MONSTERS PERFORM FREE CONCERT DURING U.S. OLYMPIC TRIALS

Platinum Selling Artist & Colorado Favorite Joins World Champions & US Best Freestyle & Nordic Combined Athletes at Nationally Televised Olympic Selection Event in Ski Town, U.S.A.®

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO-October 13, 2009-Colorado favorite and platinum recording artists, Big Head Todd & the Monsters, will perform a free concert on December 23rd during US Olympic Trials in Freestyle & Nordic Combined Skiing in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The US Olympic Trials is a one shot, winner-takes-all chance at making the U.S. Olympic Team in Freestyle & Nordic Combined skiing.

“The quartet’s (Todd Park Mohr, Rob Squires, Brian Nevin and Jeremy Lawton) blend of rock, folk, blues and soul have earned the band worldwide popularity with a wide musical audience especially here in the Yampa Valley,” said Andy Wirth, senior vice president of marketing & sales for the resort. “Having Big Head Todd & the Monsters headline the U.S. Olympic Trials guarantees that we’ll have the best in the business--both athletically and musically.”

The essence of Big Head Todd & the Monsters–a rootsy, emotionally direct variety of rock ’n’ roll that lends itself particularly well to a live setting – has been winning fans since Mohr, Squires and Nevin started playing together in high school (Lawton joined in 2004). The band has cultivated a loyal fan base by touring hard for more than two decades and exploring new sounds on his own terms as seen from its latest work, All the Love You Need.

“Big Head Todd & the Monsters will provide a terrific finish to a spectacular, energy-packed first day of world-class, Freestyle mogul and Nordic Combined competition and celebration of our community’s long-standing Olympic heritage,” continued Wirth.

The band’s 1993 album, Sister Sweetly, went platinum and produced several Top 10 hits, including Bittersweet, Broken Hearted Savior and Circle. Other work includes Riviera, recorded just down the road in Mohr’s Yampa home in 2002, and Crimes of Passion and Live at the Fillmore, both released in 2004. In 2005, the single Blue Sky was written at the request of crewmembers of the Space Shuttle Discovery for their STS-114 Return to Flight mission in 2005 as well as a tribute to the men and women of the American space program. The group’s latest production, All the Love You Need, was produced by Grammy winner David Bianco (Tom Petty, Mick Jagger, AC/DC) and features expansive melodies, diverse arrangements and sophisticated wordplay.

Still, for Big Head Todd and The Monsters, remaining connected to their audience means taking creative risks and inviting their longtime followers to grow alongside them while also welcoming new fans into the fold. “We’re never going to be one of those bands that relies on their hits,” Mohr says. “I think All the Love You Need is the best record we’ve ever done. I’m enjoying being a performer and a songwriter more than I ever have, and I think that’s the payoff for making new music, discovering something fresh and interesting and ultimately, worthy of our fans.”

The U.S. Olympic Trials in Ski Town, U.S.A.® will include Nordic combined (combination of ski jumping and cross-country skiing) at historic Howelsen Hill during the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 23rd followed that afternoon by men’s and women’s moguls on the Voo Doo trail at the Steamboat Ski Area. The finale to the first day’s events will be the free Big Head Todd & the Monsters concert, which will take place in Gondola Square at the heart of the mountain village. In addition, the event’s award presentation for Moguls and Nordic Combined will take place in conjunction with the concert. The aerial event will close out the U.S. Olympic Trials on the morning of Christmas Eve, Thursday, Dec. 24th.
