Good morning skiers and riders! It has been a powder MONTH in the 'Boat! Since February 1st, we've received 5 and a half FEET of snow at mid-mountain! It snowed 20 out of the 28 days this month, making it a February to remember in Steamboat. Stop reading this Straight Talk report right now and go skiing! Seriously. It's awesome out there right now.
Today was heavenly! With a fresh dusting of snow last night and 10 inches of new snow yesterday, the trees held fresh, untracked pow stashes everywhere. The cold air last night kept the powder as soft as if it had fallen overnight and the bright sun illuminated the way to powder paradise. Off nearly every run, you'll find boot-deep powder to blast turns through.
Like groomers? Steamboat's beefy 63 inch base has some treats for you today. My run down the freshly pressed Upper and Lower Valley View was smooth and fast. The grooming crew ironed the fresh snow into a soft surface for pressing your edges into perfect turns. The conditions on the groomed runs today are perfect for digging in hard and pressing those hips low against the hill. Lack of crowds on the slopes allowed me to open it up and blast down the corduroy.
The groomers were working especially hard for you all last night and left some corduroy presents where they normally don't appear. I found especially rare corduroy on Middle Rib and Royal Flush in the Pony area this morning. The dichotomy created between the grooming ridges in the center and the plentiful powder pillows on the sides had me smiling from top to bottom. Playfully dipping into the powder and then darting down the corduroy on Middle Rib was an unforgettable Steamboat experience! I added a picture below of the rarely groomed, steep, and fast Middle Rib below.
March is historically Steamboat's snowiest month and I can't wait to see what it has in store!
See you on the slopes,
