Steamboat

Last week I had the opportunity to do a tour of the new One Steamboat Place and Wildhorse Gondola that will now be adjoining our base area at the mountain. Jim Schneider in charge of Skier Services was on hand to give me the full tour and what the base will soon look like as the project gets closer to completion. You can read the full press release on the improvements here.

One Steamboat Place is directly next to the base of the ski area and with access from the skier/drop off and new Wildhorse Gondola. Here's a look at the walkway and building entrance on the right.

A look at the Wildhorse Gondola as it comes into the One Steamboat Place walkway area. The gondola departs from Wildhorse near the Meadows parking lot.

The gondola towers are getting completed and the planned completion is February.

I'm standing near the entrance of One Steamboat Place and looking back on the Steamboat building. The Steamboat ticket office is on the left and directly at the corner of the One Steamboat Place will be the new Ski School Ticket Office.

A look at the counters making their way into the Ski School Ticket Office

After checking out the Ski School Ticket Office we were now directly between the new Ski School Ticket Office at One Steamboat Place on the right and the Steamboat Ticket Office on the left. We then walked toward the mountain.

As we walked closer to the mountain, we came up to the elevator and stairs with a sitting area in case you are waiting up for friends.

From the edge of that sitting area just next to the elevator and stairs, you get the view of the magic carpets and the finishing of the walkway below.

A glimpse of the heated walkway being completed down below.

Here's a look at the stairs down to the base and on the right is access to what will become the Truffle Pig Restaurant with outdoor seating.

We made our way down the stairs which shows the walking access from Village Drive/Market on the Mountain area.

In this photo you can see the stairs that I walked down and on the left side, those glass windows and doors are what will become the new Ski Patrol First Aid Facility and where injuries come off the mountain. The walkway is all heated.

From there we walked toward the slopes and came to the new Kids Adventure Center at the base of the ski area.

When kids come in off the slopes they'll be organized into their ages through the doors with the daycare kids door on the right side and the other kids on the left side.

Inside the Kids Vacation Center which is finishing up construction. If you look all the way through, the windows at the rear of the photo are the old entrance of the Kids Vacation Center. Look how much room there is now!

That was it for the tour and can't wait to see how the construction progresses quickly over the next couple weeks as the mountain gets ready for opening day!

To all the guests who were curious about access to and from the Snowflower condos the 13th photo is a shot from the snow through One Steamboat Place to the Snowflower and then a few more steps to the Highmark at Apre ski rd.

Thank you very much! :-)

Looking good (LOTS of progress): I imagine that the character of the base area will have changed quite a lot since last season. I am just very sad that we will not make it to Steamboat, this year, to check out the changes: we will have to wait until early 2011...

I look forward to seeing more photos in the mean time.

Boo, we are going to tour some of the rentable One Steamboat whole ownership units while we are there in mid January. I'll take lots of pictures. I can't promise a Boo-style blog but maybe I can give you some vicarious happiness.

Wow, the base area is TOTALLY upgraded! Looks awesome too! Looks like Whistler-grade stuff. I am impressed. I hate over-developing any mountain, but this looks really classy. I hope it carries over to the rest of the town. Man, I can't wait to get back to Skitown USA!

What does employee housing look like these days? Now that would be interesting for many of us. I just might come back to work if that got an upgrade too. Kudos STEAMBOAT SKI & RESORT!

Very nice indeed.

I hope it doesn't make it more crowded in the lower areas?
