As I've been buried in work the last few weeks, I've purposely tried to avoid all that is Steamboat during that time. Each time I'd go to the site after returning from our trip, I'd pine for the slopes. The funny thing is, I was almost, if not definitely pining for the 'count down' to the trip. Kinda like that old saying about the journey being better than the destination, etc.
Anyway, Ive now come to accept that skiing is done for the year, time to look towards gardening, cutting grass, golfin…

Well, here we are, waiting to board our flight back to the 'burgh'. So, I guess our first trip has officially ended. Let's hope we can get there again next year. Last day on the mountain (yesterday) was pretty uneventful. Conditions were'nt really that great. I think it was officially the first day of our 6 days on the mtn. that the top was above freezing (35ish). So, my hiding at the top of the mountain to avoid the unusually warm boat weather wasnt even working that well.
I do believe Boo and…

Well, I think that the limitations of our bodie is slowly.....errr..... quickly catching up to us. Funny how each day here at the boat, we seem to be getting up a little later each day and taking a little longer lunches. I think we all thought we were in good shape before getting here, but I guess there's "in shape" and then there's "in ski shape".
Today was a good day on the mountain though. Again, wifey was denied a trip on the mountain by her left leg MCL. It shouted "We'll have none of that…

Well, since my last blog, wifey was still depressed after blowing out her MCL high speeding it (2 mph) down Vagabond yesterday. She's slowly facing the facts that it's very unlikely she'll be skiing again this vacation. So she's trying to make the best of it.
Since it was a blue bird day, I thought it be perfect for photos and videos, so I basically played the part of 'Sharpshooting Imaging" today. I posted a few on line.
After the boys and I headed to the hill this morning, the wife talked th…

Well last night we ended up going to mambo italiano for dinner. excellent choice and appreciate the recommendations from the blogosphere for it. We had a mixture of many different things, but my favorite was the mambo nachos - basically an italian version of a loaded nachos plate…

Well, Day 1 is behind us. It has been quite an adventurous day for sure! First off, my oldest just wasnt well enough to go out. As noted previous, he had 103 temp, and was hugging the toilet for most of the night. Thank God my wife is a nurse and was able to aid him the best she could.
Before all of that, he wasnt feeling too bad at the time, and we did mosey out for some dinner and take a look see around the mountain base. We went to Fiesta Jalesco (sp?) for dinner. Good mexican food and manag…

OK, so we're not totally the 'Griswalds', but close. First and foremost, we did have a safe and expedient flight, and yes, we DID GET ALL OUR BAGS!!!!!. So, there is hoop No. 1 we jumped through.
Now for the now so great side. It's 52 freakin' degrees!!!!!!! With the very strong sun here, as you all know, you can easily walk around with only a short sleeve Tshirt on around the city. Dare I say sweating.
However, I have read some forecasts and spoke with a few people, and apparentlhy its a lot…

Well, here we are, approximately 50 hours from leaving on our first ever trip to the boat. I want to thank all those that threw some Karma my way these past few days. After some doctor visits, it appears that the wifey and my youngest son had some viral infection. So, it was basically just wait it out - no strept throat, etc.
Both sickies are about 80-90% better and should be almost 100% good to go by our trip on Tuesday morning. Definitely by our first ski day on Wed. - pray there's no relapse…

Well, well, well...... here we are, approximately 100 hours from our first ever trip to the boat. You have to understand, this trip was locked in and paid for (well, at least present on my credit card) since mid July - 7 months ago. We've been counting the months, then weeks, then day, now hours.
Now here is where I need your help. Get home from work yesterday and both the wifey and my youngest teenage son are both sick as dogs!!! Worst case - mono, best case - strept throat. THIS CANT BE HAPPE…

To try to get our ski legs, the wifey and I took a day off and did some local skiing here at our local Intrawest ski resort (Seven Springs, PA). Somehow we managed to pick the only day this month that temps were above freezing - 44 degs to be exact. Talk about labor intensive skiing!!! Wifey coined it well when she said it was like trying to ski through a snow cone. My legs were dog tired after even the mildest of runs...Boy, cant wait to get to the fresh powder of the boat for some easier skiin…

if anyone interested, below is a neato link that sorts out the various ski resorts around, and provides their value. Note when sorted, Steamboat is one of the best value of lift ticket for vertical foot of mountain.

Currently at work, trying to get a report out before the holidays. So I called my youngest son to tell him I'll be a little late. He tells me to take my time. I ask why. He informs me that our dog (a westie) got up on our dark wood, mirror-polished lacquored dining room table and ate our entire ginger bread house!!!! He said it looks like a scene from "Twister" the movie!!!!!
Now I'm not sure if Im more afraid to go home, or more afraid of what will happen (and what I see) when I take him for h…

Hard day at work last Tuesday, Typical, typical, typical. Then I come home, looking to see the family and raise my spirits. As I walk through the door, low and behold, there's my wife standing there ON CRUTCHES!!!!!!
You know how they say when in an accident or major 'life episode' your past life flashes before your eyes? Well, when I saw my wife standing there, my FUTURE life of our yearlong-planned trip to Steamboat in Feb went flashing before my eyes. I saw my wife sitting in the condo, cryi…

.....which stands for Can't Wait, Can't Wait, Can't Wait for Steamboat.
This will be our first trip out west for my wife and two boys (18 and 15). We all just started skiing about 2 years ago and got bit by the fever pretty bad. Pretty much all xmas presents, etc. now focus on skis, gear, etc for our trips.
We live in a sub (Moon Twp.) of Pittsburgh, PA. There is some no bad skiing around here (7 Springs and Snowshoe), but we want to do the west!!! So, we took the plunge, and are coming out!!!…
