Happy Leap Day!

What are you going to do with your extra day? If you're lucky enough to spend it skiing, you're in for a great day. With 7" falling in the last 24 hours there's a lot of fun skiing to find as you explore the new snow. The sky is clear since we are in-between storms, but the sun has not quite broken through yet so bring light colored lenses for best visibility. On to the snow!…

White Out Conditions = More Snow

More storms are upon us here in the Yampa Valley. It is supposed to snow the remainder of today and into tonight which means tomorrow could be another awesome day. My first run today was West Side. After getting an inside scoop from ski patrol that groomers were the way to go this morning, I knew my plan of attack for the morning. West Side almost left me speechless this morning. I almost didn't feel grounded. The mixture of a head cold and a few fresh inches on top of freshly groomed snow…

T-to-B Groomers

Today is all about the groomers. From the top of Storm Peak to the base, the best turns of the day were found on the freshly groomed surfaces.

Today's moderate wind, storm-indicating clouds and low temps made for a fast and furious morning, although the low light certainly makes you check your speed. I wanted…

Sunday Driver

This morning I found myself in a state of calm and bliss after a tremendous week of unforgettable snow and skiing.  I could feel my body needing a rest from the heart-pounding and muscle churning endurance needed in previous days to suck the most enjoyment I could out of over 7 feet of newly fallen snow.…

Epic Week.

Words cannot explain what an incredible week we've experienced here in Steamboat. With close to 100 inches of snow falling in February alone, it has been a month to remember. The photos, the videos and the web postings have been amazing to see and the memories will last a lifetime. For me, I've skied in some of the deepest powder of my life. I shared great times with family and friends and had one of the best weeks of skiing ever. Steamboat is back on the map. The storm cycles appear to be…

A Bluebird day to Celebrate this weeks Snowfall

Wow, what a day to remark on the 7ft feet of snow that has fallen already this month and over 4 feet in the last 5 days. Check out the full report on how much snow we have received on Steamboat's main page. The Yampa Valley is glistening with blue skies and snow covered trees this morning. If you were up early this morning you would have experienced some soft…

Snow, Snow, and More Snow

Ahh, skiers and snowboarders rejoice! Last night, another 2 inches of snow fell at mid-mountain and an additional 6 inches fell at the summit!  Since last Thursday, it snowed 52 inches at mid-mountain!  This has been a week to remember at Steamboat and there's more snow forecasted for this weekend.  It's time to unleash your inner power god/goddess and get up here!…

Transformed

Four feet in three days! This place has been completely transformed into a winter wonderland - and almost by surprise. There is a weather phenomenon that Local Meteorologist Joel Gratz refers to as the "Steamboat Surprise," where pure magic is responsible for ridiculous amounts of snow falling on our ski mountain. It is why we love it here.…

A Very Fat Tuesday

Hello from a VERY snowy Steamboat Springs!  Yesterday's massive record setting dump was unbelievable, no doubt one of if not the deepest day of my life.  And the powder gods have blessed us again today with more deep champagne snow Steamboat is famous for.

Today is known as…

31" and counting...

"Day of the decade" is what one Steamboatian wrote on his Facebook post this morning, but even that doesn't do today justice. Get up here and take advantage of this historic day!

At 5am, the report declared 27 inches in 24 hours at both the mid-mountain and the summit. By 9:00am, there were 4 more reported. Simply put, it's deep out there...amazingly fun, and at times, a little bit intense. I was fortunate enough to ski with some patrollers today, who rallied hard to open up…

Burn Through?

I've been out of town the last few days and have heard nothing but how incredible the skiing has been.  Well... today was no different.  I suppose the Presidents of years past are smiling down on us once again.  Happy President's Weekend!

The snow today was crisp and packed a little "bite" on my edges. It…

Keep it coming!

The inches keep piling up and so do the smiles on our faces. You can feel the happy vibe throughout the town and snow is back to being the topic of discussion. It's amazing what a frozen droplet of water can do for your soul. With close to four feet of snow falling in the past 10 days the skiing has been absolutely amazing. The mountain is in peak condition, so get out and have a great President's Day weekend. Today is going to be a great day.…

Great Snow and Mardi Gras

What a week it has been in Steamboat. Every day we have accumulated a variety of inches all adding up to over 3ft of snow. After chasing the powder this week, I decided to check out the groomers and trails that I don't always get to on a powder day. After seeing that Middle Rib, Hurricane, and Rolex were groomed on today's grooming report I had the start of my morning all planned out.

Happy Presidents Day…

Pow Pow Powder!

Four inches of fresh snow fell overnight at Thunderhead and all of it since the lifts closed.  This brings Steamboat's snow totals to over three feet at the summit and close to three feet at Thunderhead this week!  As I gather up my ski gear and head out the door this morning, I grab my figurative superhero cape for these epic snow conditions!…

Good Morning, Sunshine

Now this is more like the winter that we here in Steamboat have become accustomed to. Snow overnight, snow during the day... Snow building up flake by flake and inch by inch for so many days you can't remember when it started. Or, the last time you saw the sun.…

A Valentine's Wish Come True

Feeling lucky this Valentine's Day? You should be lovebirds because this makes two powder days in row. Grab your true love and head up for a "date-ski" and a Champagne (powder) toast. Chinchin.

It's a typical Steamboat powder day. I knew it was the real deal when the snow brushed off my windshield with…

Four and Four Makes Six

Four inches of fresh goes a long way after the wave of storms we've had over the past week. We are enjoying 4 new inches of new snow at mid mountain and 4 at the summit, but it seems to be skiing like six. It's a powder day in the 'Boat, and it's still coming down.

Trying to stay ahead of the lucky…

Sunrise / Sunset

As the sun rises over Steamboat Springs, I once again find myself at the doorstep of another great day of skiing.  The recent snowfall has left nothing but gorgeous groomers and powder stashes galore.  I'd say that no matter where you decide to ski today, it's going to be good.

The winds were blowing…

Silent Storms.

Some of the best storms are the ones that never get any press in the paper. They usually aren't talked about in town and they don't really show up on any radar. These are the silent storms that creep in while we're sleeping at night and bless us with fresh snow in the morning. We were pleasantly surprised to wake up to 5 inches of newly fallen snow on Thursday. The snow continued throughout the day and into the night. On Friday she decided to stay for another day. That brings us to…

I have to say my favorite runs of the day was back to back Shadows shredding through the trees with only my tracks in front of me.... ah pure…
