Today I had the pleasure of being reacquainted with our long, lost friend, Spring! It's been so long that I can hardly believe it's finally here, and even if only for a short break before our more famous frined, Winter Storm, returns.
I was excited by the sun and warm temps as I rode up the Gondola,…Continue

Spring has definitely arrived in Steamboat, but it feels like Winter is still trying to hang around just a little bit longer. While today wasn't the knee deep conditions we have been used to all year, it snowed just enough to make some fresh turns out there. The snow pack is certainly starting to resemble spring conditions, but a little fresh snow can change everything this time of year.

Some skiers prey for powder. Others prey for plentiful corduroy and perfect visibility. At least that's what I overheard in the Gondola this morning.
Before I tell you about today's conditions I need to tell you a little bit about yesterday as it plays a role in today's story. Yesterday we had two distinct mountain experiences: spring skiing with warm temperatures and spring snow, and winter snow with colder temperatures. I spend most of my time at the winter end of the spectrum;…Continue

Anyone who remembered to set their clocks ahead one hour last night, and make it to the resort for some first runs, was rewarded with 5 inches of new snow this morning. It was great to get some fresh snow after some fairly warm days recently.
I loaded the gondola about 8:45am. The time-change…Continue

Hello and welcome to March in Steamboat! It is a perfectly sunny day here today with no clouds to be seen, and it is starting to feel like we are getting into the Spring season. I know we still have a few big snow storms ahead, but you can just feel that change in the air. My goggle tan confirms this.
Before I stepped off the Gondola today, I anticipated the runs to be a little firm and in need of some sunshine to kick things off. I was pretty surprised to find that most…Continue

Today is another beautiful day in Steamboat: temps are mild and wind is calm - and the snow is in fabulous shape. I chased the sun over to Sunnyside Peak as the clouds over Mt. Werner were still sticking around. The lack of tracks in the snow lead me to believe that all of the First Trackers must have chosen to sleep in today. I took advantage of the situation and skiied laps on Flintlock, Quickdraw and Sunshine Lift Line. There are still soft little powder puffs to be found in the…

It's another perfect day here in Steamboat -blue sky, soft snow and the always incredible views. After days of fresh powder, the skies have opened up to sunshine and there are plenty of goods to be enjoyed on the mountain.
I wanted to take a few good groomer laps to start things out since the recent fresh snow always makes the cordury that much nicer. I had no idea how good Buddy's Run was going to treat us this morning. It's not usually a run that I frequent, but it was a great…Continue
