Usually kids don't want to wear the hood thing, but carry it in your pocket just in case. If it's really cold once you get on there on the slopes, I'll bet you big money that'll change.
I ski with my boys every January in Steamboat (now 10 & 8) and they wear the whole kit every day since they stay up top most the whole day ... base layer top and bottom, fleece top (& bottom if it's Arctic cold), and down jacket. They used to wear...
This will be my 3rd straight year in steamboat during that week. I have not noticed a huge difference in crowds on the slopes but bear in mind weekends are always a little busier than weekdays so I am sure the weekend activity will spill over into...

Each party going into any full service option has its own set of expectations, maybe even several if you have combined families in one group, so it's really not fair to pass judgement based on a single experience. That said.....
One month shouldn't make a difference, but when I was in exactly your shoes with my 2 boys the school front office stood on policy and went by the birthdate to determine categories. So the school will tell you your grandchild is 3 and should be wi...
I just checked the cams on steamboat.com only to find a herd of elk strolling around in view! Never know what you'll see when you check in. Kind of fun for this Florida girl looking at continuous sunshine and warmth 12 hours out of every 24.
Since I always ski with an instructor in tow, that would explain the attendant calling her out because she didn't have a helmet that day. She's so much like a friend nearly forget I'm technically in a lesson.
Sometimes they do have someone at the park gate in Steamboat, or at least I've seen some enforcement some of the time at the smaller park where there are more kids and less experienced skiers/riders.
I can understand how adults might bristle at t...
Hi Trudy! Yay! The forum's back!
Did you have a good, relaxing Thanksgiving? Ours was good. I worked all day then we went out for a Thanksgiving Buffet dinner. Mmmm...no cooking and no cleanup! I love it! It snowed a bit last night again, but I'm not sure if we'll ski today or not. Not too much is open yet. And I think that there will be a bunch of people out today. Safer to stay in.
Anyway, hope you have a great day!
Laura
I second Laura's "Yay!" Will take me a while to get used to the new format, but I'm sure I'll like it when I get accustomed to the change. Just wanted to check in and let you know that "Kim Tucker" is the old mojomom. Hope I don't embarrass my local daughter by using my real name. We will be arriving in Steamboat 3 weeks from today for a couple of weeks and my daughter and son-in-law are home with us until tomorrow. It sure takes the bite out of their leaving in the morning when I know I'll see them in less than three weeks! Take care and I hope you, your husband and the boys have a great holiday season!
Fantastic isn't it? The resort must be very happy: because they already had "regulars" before they put the new forum/site up, they are getting a rapid population and fast growing momentum for the new site... Virtually instant popularity :-)
It is great that that our trips are overlapping. By choice we probably would have gone later (loved early february last year and the WInter Carnival), but we need to get back to the UK earlier this year.
Oh wow - sounds like your trip will be amazing. Which of their properties did you go for? Are you going full catered? I think that it will be an experience: something different and very good. You can be dropped off at the bottom of the Thunderhead Lift if you want to too, that would be good. I am sorry that the other groups that you were sharing with cancelled - it would have been fun to share (like a big house party).
We are in Bear Claw again: Bear Claw works out as a very good balance for us. There is something just too attractive about falling out of your condo and into your skis and vice versa at the end of the day :-).
Either 16th or 17th sounds very good (I am looking at a 2.09pm flight out of Hayden on the 18th). Maybe try to get a group together on the 16th, maybe Slopeside? But I am completely open to suggestions: depends what works out well for you and your family.
Thank you very much - I am sure that you would have made an excellent tour guide. We were in Miami in late September (26th until 28th).
Spending time on boats and in the Keys sounds like an idyllic way to grow-up and to spend quality time together as a family.
It is also wonderful to experience different seasons: as much as I love Spring/Summer, a cold, crisp, sunny, frosty Winter day can make you feel alive (if a little cold...). I really hope that you are able to find a way to continue to go to Steamboat as your boys get older: things like that are just such great life experiences.
Good luck getting all the clothing together for your boys - it must be an annual challenge: kids grow so fast. We have a few ski shops around here - we bought a few "ice breaker" base layer tops today. We visited an indoor "real" snow covered ski slope today too - just to get the feeling of snow under ski again. It isn't brilliant (button lifts too), but it just helps to rebuild some confidence.
Thanks! Cute, huh? That's Haley - at 2 and a half! skiing down Why Not last Wednesday. It was our first family ski day where we were all on skis! So much fun!!
Hi Trudy. A bit late, but season's greetings? How are you? How is Christmas going? Are you having a fabulous time with your three boys (i.e. your two little boys and one grown-up boy)? Boo
Not quite in the air - just packing up the last few things for the two hour drive to the airport (London).
Sounds like you have been very busy. Must be a lovely time of year with kids.
I will try to post updates. Let me know when would be good for you for us to meet up: you will just be arriving during our last few days - it will be easier for us to fit around you.
We haven't moved yet, but we are all organised to move: we are waiting to exchange contracts (hopefully fairly early in January) and the buyers want to complete before 5th February. I can't wait to exchange contracts because I can't sign a rental agreement on a house (have found a lovely one) until we do. I am currently praying that the rental house doesn't get snapped up by anyone else... Things will be VERY busy when we get back here (20th January).
Hope that you really enjoy the anticipation of your trip to Steamboat: the planning and the anticipation are both a good part of the fun :-).
i think we are going to the Sheraton for the Christmas buffet. Others have suggested the Ore House, Cafe Diva alos. Yes book ahead of time. thats what i will be doing next week.

Temps have been great for snowmaking and we definitely have more snow this year than we had last year. I wouldn't worry, we tend to get dumped on in December.
Here's a good article about late starts and how the season turns out.
I have been checking the cameras lately, and there does not appear to be alot of snow on the mountain, and not much in the forecast?
Getting nervous about our trip out December 18th. Anything to worry about?
I agree with the balaclava. If your boys are going to wear helmets, which they should, then you can buy a nice under helmet hat/balaclava, a must in Steamboat. The key to keeping warm on the mountain is layers. (and toe warmers!)
