Prevent injuries this ski season with Fit For Snow tips

So you’ve bought your pass, picked up some new gear and are stoked for the season. Now it's time to get in shape and learn how to prevent injuries.Skiing and riding on snow are unique in the demands that gravity places on your muscles and joints. It’s one of the reasons that you always get sore the first few days of the…See More

Stay safe on the mountain during early season

Winter is in full swing in the Yampa Valley, and Mother Nature is doing her part to help Steamboat Ski Resort have a great opening day Wednesday. The storm had dropped 17 inches at mid-mountain and 20 inches at the summit by Monday morning with more snow forecast through Wednesday. We know skiers and riders are anxious to…See More

Sniffin' Out Safety....Summer Wildlife

I love the summertime in Steamboat. The flowers bloom, the grass is vibrant green and all my furry forest friends come out to play. There are lots of wild animals that call Steamboat their backyard, too, and even though they look cuddly and fun, I always have to remind myself to keep my distance. The safest way to view wildlife in the Yampa Valley is from a distance. If you see an animal, it’s fine to take a picture — just use the zoom feature on your camera instead of getting close. They might…See More

Sniffin' Out Safety.... to #BuddyUp

Guess what time of year it is? A little hint… it’s my favorite time of year. It’s the time of year when there’s extra focus on safety, with a whole week dedicated to highlighting my favorite safety practices. You guessed it, it’s a National Safety Awareness Week. And even though Steamboat emphasizes safety every day of the season, and the official Safety Awareness Week is now a whole month, we’re taking this special week to be super safety focused. This year our safety campaign is #BuddyUp. It’s…See More

Sniffin’ Out Safety….. During the Spring Ski Season

It has been a great winter filled with lots of incredible snowstorms, but the weather conditions are definitely changing. Even with some snow storms on the radar, I think it’s safe to say it’s officially spring in Steamboat. It’s really easy during the spring to throw all your cares away and just soak up the sun; but I’m here…See More

Sniffin’ Out…. The Backcountry

Like most of you, I love a good powder stash. I’ll follow my nose to the fresh, light, fluffy stuff every chance I get. But I also have learned the hard way that sometimes this approach doesn’t always lead to the best place to be. I’ve been almost everywhere on the mountain and even though I’m extremely comfortable in snow, I know there are places I shouldn’t go.Even though the resort has backcountry access gates, you need to know the terrain and be knowledgeable about skiing out of bounds…See More

Sniffin' Out Safety.... During Safety Awareness Week

This is my absolute favorite week of the year. Better than Christmas, Fourth of July, or the annual bone digging contest in August. This week is National Safety Awareness Week. It’s funny because really EVERY DAY is safety awareness day at Steamboat, but this is a special week where we go all out to make sure everyone knows the safety efforts of the resort. Starting tomorrow Gondola Square turns into Safety Central where guests can participate in programs, demonstrations and contests, as well…See More

Sniffin' Out Safety.... In The Terrain Park

Mavericks Superpipe is scheduled to open today, so I thought it was a great time to chat about Terrain Park safety. I may not be one of those young pups who goes big or goes home, but I like my playtime in the parks.I’m always impressed by how respectful and courteous skiers and riders who play in Steamboat’s four parks are. I think it’s because of the Smart Style Program and Steamboat’s own ParkWise program. Have you heard of these? If you’ve been in one of our parks you’ve probably see the…See More
