Flip The Switch

Skiing and snowboarding is a ton of fun... and thankfully we don't have to end the fun when the sun goes down anymore, because it's time for night skiing in Steamboat my friends.  We have flipped the light switch to ON for 1,100 vertical feet of night time fun!  Night skiing is a treat that I take advantage of often.  Sometimes…See More

Short and Sweet

Every day on the mountain is different. Sure, I've had more than my fair share of groomer days this year. But the weather in the mountains is complicated and it can change everything overnight. While the conditions may change for the better or worse, nothing quite beats getting to see the morning light across the valley. Even though my day only involved one run down from the gondola (I'll get to that later), just being up there is always an invigorating way to start your morning.…See More

There's no place like home

This weekend I left the valley - a somewhat rare occurrence in winter for me.  My 2 year old and I accompanied my husband on an 'adventure' to another Colorado ski resort where he had to be for work.  While it is always fun to explore and go see other places, everything about my weekend away reminded me of why I LOVE STEAMBOAT!…See More

Morning Meditation

Last Saturday morning I woke up to a gorgeous pink sunrise, and took that to mean that the snow gods and goddesses were about to pay Steamboat a nice little (or big I should say) visit... and boy was I right!  Thank you all for doing your very best snow dancing, it really paid off nicely in the past week.  This morning, there was no pink sunrise... but even better, there was snow!

I'm a stay-at-home Mom (and I love it), but the lost art of getting into your car (by yourself)…

Fresh snow, a Steamboat holiday tradition

Let the Steamboat holiday traditions begin. The Sugar Plum Fairy and all her adorable little angels, mice and snowflakes will dance the "Nutcracker” this weekend...but it appears that during dress rehearsal last night the Snow Queen did a fine job sprinkling both the stage and our ski area with a blanket of fresh snow.…

Steamboat Leftovers

All the snow that has fallen in the last 3 or 4 days has done wonders for the mountain. The ice layer is a distant memory, the groomers have all been refreshed with soft snow and the trees have been amazing. Since the big snow on Monday, the few inches we've gotten each day have kept things soft and fun out there, but we are mostly riding on the leftovers. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, just different.

Let's talk about the backcountry, baby

Reason No. 743 why I adore Steamboat: It doesn't take much snow to get the mountain in gorgeous shape. What a lovely relief to finally ski some real powder. And it is everywhere.

One of the fun things about this time of year is there are so few people compared to the amount of terrain that is open, so even the…

should have waited for the snow - got to Steamboat on Jan. 1 thru 9 and got Totally corned. no snow, moguls with stumps and weeds - did an awesome 180 forward flip after hitting a rock and cracked 2 ribs and broke my camcorder.

However, no worries, will be  back next yr. I just love the place.
