"Wasn't there a Mexican place, La Fiesta Grill that's new since last year (opened mid season last year?)? At least I thought it was new--maybe I'm just behind! I think it's on Central Park Drive or Central Park Plaza, something in…"

Demoing in April or end of March

I might be going to Steamboat twice next season--the second trip being at the end of March or very early April. Usually I do demo skis when I'm out there, but I'm wondering if that late in the season will anyone have anything left at that point? My ideal would be to demo from Christy Sports, Fleischer or Ski and Sport if it's likely they'll still have anything to pick from at that point---otherwise I might have to consider bringing my own skis. Lots of times it's pretty slim pickings by end of…See More

NewEnglandSkier replied to Lisa's discussion Tipping of Instructors
"I tip about 10% of the toal cost of my lessons. If you are taking a series of privates with the same instructor each day then I think it's fine to just tip at the end (at least that is what I do)."

Steamboat Trip 2011 Day 5

This was my last ski day today. I started out wishing it was not so cold, but found it to be a blessing in disguise. It started out super cold this morning at tne base--something like 29 below zero. However, I had my final lesson booked and braved the cold. When my instructor and I went up the gondola at 9am, there was nobody else boarding except patrollers. However once we reached the top, it was clear that a temperature inversion was in effect and it was actually quite nice-- certainly not…

Steamboat Trip 2011 Day 4

Today was extremly cold-- below zero at times especially with the wind chill. The snow was also very sticky.

I had another full day private lesson. We started over at Sunshine Peak, but halfway up the Sundown Express it got pretty windy. At the top the snow was windblown and variable--groomed showing through in spots and 6 inches of powder in others. After one run down High Noon, we descended to mid and lower mountain to avoid the wind.

Lunch was at Hazie's and after lunch we…

Steamboat Trip 2011 Day 3

Today we got some fresh snow--a couple inches in the morning and by afternoon maybe 5 or 6 inches and it's still snowing. I had my full day private lesson today and after one run from the top of the mountain, we descended to the Four Points area where visibility was better. Lower mountain was cold, upper mountain had poor visibility, so the place to be was somewhere in the middle.

After ending the day with drinks at the GPG, I went shopping at the Ski Haus. That is one of my favorite…

Steamboat Trip 2011 Day 2

Today was ski day number 2 for me. I had my half day private lesson this morning. Once again, things were a bit firm this morning, so while waiting for things to soften up we started over in Wally World. Eventually we worked our way over to Pioneer Ridge and skied Middle Rib.

The suns started to go in around 11:30, but it reappeared by about 12:30, so that was nice. by then everything had softened up nicely and skied well. I decided to demo some skis after lunch and took out the…

Steamboat Trip 2011 Day 1

I'm back for my annual trip. Got in late Friday night so today was my first ski day on the mountain. It started off a little chilly- esp at the base, but due to the temperature inversion was warmer up top.

Some of the groomers started off a little scratchy this morning, so I made my way over to Sunshine peak and did some runs on Flintlock, Tomahawk and Quickdraw before heading into Morningside. The trees in parts of Morningside still had that gorgeous heavy coating of snow on them.…

I am curious where you are from exactly.....I am originally from MA, but am currently a transplant in OK. Used to love skiing in Vermont and MA, but don't think I would ever go back home to ski now that I have found Steamboat....I love it to death and am going on my fifth trip this Feb.
