Agreed that helmets don't block out sound, only muffle it a bit. Anything placed over the ears changes the sound wave reception.
You definitely don't have to sacrifice your hearing though. The earpieces on most helmets have holes in them to allow sound to pass through better. When you're trying on helmets, check to make sure the holes line up with your ears. You're not goin...
