Latest observation of El Nino is that it is strengthening both at the surface and under water as well. A "Kelvin wave" is moving across The Pacific. It's not a fast mover, but none the less it is something that climatologists are paying attention ...
Quite. 1992 looks pretty grim too, from the data I have. But the amount of snowfall has been rising steadily over the years, averaging 330 inches now compared to about 250 inches back in 1980. The top of the range is now around 500 inches and the ...
If you go back a little further than that, say 1987 - 167 inches, and 1981 - 133 inches, I would say those were bad years, Ouch. I hope to never see a year like those.
Hi all! Well I've done some analysis of Steamboat's historic snowfall versus the NOAO Multivariate ENSO Index (which indicates El Nino conditions when above +1 and La Nina when below -1). My analysis suggests that if it's a moderate El Nino (with ...
Hi Damon. Thanks for the info! It's always good to get expert input. :-)
Looks like you may be right... I've been keeping an eye on the NOAO website and their CPC El Nino Advisory. It looks like the latest reading has dropped from 0.98 to 0.75. I...
El Nino is forecasted this winter to be light/moderate with a slight chance of it becoming strong. However, for it to be considered a "true" El Nino, we must see conditions met for 3 months straight. El Nino conditions are usually not really prono...
I was hoping they would not get the height variance passed. We like to stay in the Ski Time square condos and they have an amazing slope view but it will be gone if the place builds up taller than the Torian on the old Thunderhead site. So sad. Oh...
I am a UK transplant, lived in Colorado for 9 years and counting. We have lots of friends come out from the UK to ski & ride with us. They might gripe about a few things when comparing skiing/riding in Europe to the US, but its NEVER the snow :)
IIRC, two years ago, (2008) I never saw the sun for six weeks since it was either snowing or going to snow. 1997 was another big year along with 99/00, .
Here's some info from the Resort:
"This season, snow has surpassed the fourth row of fence ...
Thanks, Patti. I probably will just cross my fingers and hope for the best, because even a bad year in Steamboat is probably better than a good year in most places. But I like to know as much as possible before making a decision, to maximise my ch...
i think we are going to the Sheraton for the Christmas buffet. Others have suggested the Ore House, Cafe Diva alos. Yes book ahead of time. thats what i will be doing next week.
Usually kids don't want to wear the hood thing, but carry it in your pocket just in case. If it's really cold once you get on there on the slopes, I'll bet you big money that'll change.
Temps have been great for snowmaking and we definitely have more snow this year than we had last year. I wouldn't worry, we tend to get dumped on in December.
Here's a good article about late starts and how the season turns out.
I have been checking the cameras lately, and there does not appear to be alot of snow on the mountain, and not much in the forecast?
Getting nervous about our trip out December 18th. Anything to worry about?
