Maybe you're a beginner just looking to make it down the hill, or perhaps you're an advanced rider that is new to the resort and you just want a guide to show you some of Steamboat's famous hidden powder stashes. From learning to link your first turns to ripping knee deep powder, from your first ollies and butters to stomping your first 360 or boardslide, I can help you take your riding to the next level.
Winter 09/10 marks my 19th winter snowboarding, and 12th year of involvement in the industry. I've been instructing at Steamboat since 2004, when I took up instructing for the free season pass and accidentally discovered a passion for teaching. I have attained AASI’s Cert Level 3, with accreditations in training instructors and teaching freestyle and kids lessons. I also coach at the Alyeska Summer Camp in Alaska and have spent time volunteering for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club (www.sswc.org), working with local Steamboat kids who may become the next great Olympic champions.
I was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska, where long arctic winters created a natural platform for winter-sports involvement. I began cross-country skiing shortly after learning to walk, started downhill skiing at age 6, and then made the switch to a board at age 10. After graduating from high school in 1998, I spent the following winter with two long-time friends, traveling around the US snowboarding. The trip spawned the web-based magazine Snowboarder Guide the leading site for product equipment and resort reviews. You can visit the mag at
SBGmag.comBetween the magazine and instructing I usually net around 150 days on snow every year, and have spent more than 2,000 days snowboarding since I first made the switch from skiing. It is this breadth of experience that I draw upon to provide you with an optimal day on snow.
I'm also the creator of the "Powder Bandit" fleece-lined bandanas, designed in Steamboat, for Steamboat. They're fleece-lined and mesh bandanas for skiing, boarding, biking, and any other outdoor adventures. A quick google search for F2 Outerwear will take you to the website where you can check them out.
