I stayed at Trappeurs Timberline twice and found it to be a great property. It was clean, comfortable and friendly with an awesome shuttle service that will take you to the mountain or downtown in minutes. Comfortable lobby/reception area to sprea...

Kup.. I've thoroughly enjoyed your postings. They were very relatable. What a bummer about your wife. I hope she recovers 100% both physically and mentally. Is she even willing to go back? Does she hate you for driving this trip? How could she..bu...

My favorite is Trappeurs. It's close enough to walk in your street clothes, but in your ski gear. For ski days, we take the private shuttle. It has nice, clean and well stocked rooms, a friendly community room with at least one complimentary meet ...

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your posts/blogs from anticipation to participation. All the personal obstacles aside, I hope your trip was as satisfying as you'd hoped. I hope you focus on the positive experiences you had, and not the ones you didn'...

Most of the runs off the Sunshine Lift. I like to exit the lift to skiers left, then under the lift, through some trees to the left and onward. Sunshine Lift line is good to get some speed and work on some parallel turns or take a bump around the ...

ChicagoSkier, When are you heading to Steamboat this year? I'll be out there Feb 7-12.

Ha! Have fun next week! Last year I went with my sis who does not ski, so basically I was solo on the mountain. I did meet up with 2 people from last years forum, but for the most part I skied by myself.

In the late 70's I was an instructor at Wilmot. Nice little bump in the ground! I've been to Granite Peak a couple of times, and I like the expansion they have done there. However, I like Chestnut or Cascade a little better, especially Chestnut for an overnighter.

Me and my 3 kids will be skiing there Dec. 29th. I was there once in 1987. My kids skied for the first time at Cascade 2 years ago. Now I want them to see a real mountain! I used to ski a few times per year back in the early 80s. Wilmot mostly, and Majestic, Whitecap.

I've been to Devil's Head twice. Nothing to challenging. However, a free ticket is good reason to go. If I'm going to drive 2 hours, I'd much rather go to Cascade. First, being right off the expressway, it's easier to get to. Second, IMO, Cascade has much better terrain. The hi speed quad helps too.

Thank you! sounds like we'll be there a different times. we're coming end of feb to early march. pulling the kids out of school= I know, bad parent, bad parent!! It's my oldest last year before college, so we thought we spring for the big trip out west. I guess in the future when we come back (sounds like we will from all the other postings), we'll have to work around his college schedule.

sounds like you've stayed at quite a few locations. just curious, just always wanting to try something new, or have you just not found a nice place you like. for our first time, we'[re staying at eagle ridge. not ski in / out, but those are a nice chunk of change. maybe next time.

anyway, just keep checking the postings and hope to keep hearing of big dumps until I get there in late Feb.

I am done.. ski day 4

(Monday Morning) The snow gods took care of me again. 4 more inches overnight (a total of 16 inches for my 4 day trip) and the sun was shining. I headed right to Sunshine Peak for laps on the Sunshine Lift. Plenty of terrain to keep me happy for the day. I had all the powder I wanted, and then some. I swear I even got my float on a few times. I found the tree skiing I desired. I discovered there are two versions of tree skiing. Darting through the trees with danger abound or finding/making nice… Continue

I am here.. ski day 3

(Sunday Morning) The TV reported 1 degree in Denver and the clock Downtown said 12 degrees. I didn't sleep well and was still sore from my first two days on the slopes (seems to me a lesson may have helped make me more efficient and less sore, eh?) everything was working against me, but hey, I came here to ski, right.
Went back to the Sunshine Lift side and made plenty of turns in the soft snow. There was plenty of powder to be had, even off the Blue runs. I tasted the powder even though I sink… Continue

I am here

I am finally here! I've never blogged so bear with me. Took Alpine taxi from Denver. Worked out well. The ride was about 3.5 hours. Same price as a rental car, but who needs a car here? Staying in the clean, affordable and excelletly located Rabbit Ears. Did Central Reservations really give me free lift tickets with my lodging? Awesome deal. With no new snow in the last 48 hrs, Friday's snow was thin and icy. And, as I looked up the run .. boy it was crowded. What a difference a day makes! It sn… Continue
