It is a difficult one.
Powdercats are EXCELLENT: very professional, very well organised, brilliant guides etc. A+ all around - amazing experience.
I am pretty fit (gym 4 times a week and pilates once a week all year round), but fairly short ...

I don't know about Christmas dinner, but they are great for "homecooked food to take home and warm through" etc. Westie, this is a great way to "cook" in your condo without too much worry about the chall...
You are right - definitely the traditional choice (at least for well off families and probably those with farms etc), but probably not for the past 50+ years.
I must try it sometime :-)
I don't even bother trying them in the UK (only place I like them is, very nice ones, cooked on a BBQ in our back garden...). Husband occassionally has one when we are out, but they never look appetising. I just wait until I get to the US...

I definitely find cooking in Steamboat a challenge (combination of the altitude and US style stoves/cookers perhaps?).... Things seem to boil without being that hot (if that makes any sense). I try to keep it simple...
Yes, goose is really quite rare in the UK (these days)... I would say 80+% of us have turkey for Christmas dinner (the other 20% are split between chicken, beef, goose and a few other things).

Not Steamboat snow, but....
Have been back home for a couple of weeks now and missing Steamboat hugely. I also miss blogging too (I need therapy!)
I live in the South West of England and we VERY, VERY rarely get any snow that actually settles. I find this very sad and it is just one of the reasons that I love coming to Steamboat so much: I get to see heaps and heaps of beautiful fresh snow everywhere. Back where I live, the most we tend to get is a "heavy frost" (despite the depictions of Southern England in any Christmas… Continue

Day 15 – Homeward Bound
Always the saddest day of any trip… snapping your ski boots into your bindings, knowing that it will be both your last and a very short ski day.
As befits an obsessive organiser, I was as organised as possible for our last day: everything was packed that could be packed, we had checked out and we had arranged to keep the condo until noon (thank you very much to Bear Claw condos for allowing that).

Day 14 - MLK Holiday Saturday
Ok, I lied – one more blog before heading towards home tomorrow.
Another fantastic day: barely a cloud in the sky and lots of fast groomers to play on.
We wanted to make the most of a few lower mountain favourites first thing. We started off with a good, solid, flying warm-up run along the length of Vagabond: a really beautiful run, but, to be appreciated fully, it must be done early (before anybody else shows up). Then back up for Heavenly Daze, which was indeed amazingly “heavenly”! Then, ou… Continue

Day 13 - Bluebird Day and Amazing Hospitality
What a day! Busy, beautiful and a LOT of fun!
We got up and out onto the mountain to find not a cloud in the sky. The further you got up the mountain, the bluer the sky seemed to become. It was so beautiful, it was the sort of day that you see in holiday brochures or on postcards.
Yet another day of perfect groomers to carve through and we took full advantage of that invitation: heading all over the mountain in the morning. We headed straight across to Sunshine: Upper High Noon was amazing and… Continue

Day 12 - Delicious!
Delicious! Both the sweet memories of last night’s meal (at Café Diva) and the skiing today!
Steamboat was very kind to us, again, today. Things started off VERY quietly on the mountain and we didn’t really experience much difference throughout the day: it got a little busier, but not much. The groomers were in fantastic shape – incredibly carvable. My knees, though a bit creaky, rose to the occasion and we carved down fabulous groomers all day. Hope you had a nice time in Poland, we deal with a company over there and they had snow the other day, still frustratingly unable to get my profile photo on, but have placed it into the photo section for now. We are going back about the same time next Feb (despite the £ to $) no doubt you are doing the same run again.

- Boo, just Steamboat again, staying at the same Condo (Yampa View) I am sure Steamboat will give us both a good trip once again, just have to do our snow dances before we leave. Guess with the £ no new skis this year, but glad I bought wifey her new ski wear and boots last visit, Will you Powdercat it again ? By the way really enjoyed running thru your photos.
On the job front, better to have a had a go then wonder should I have gone for it

- Thanks for the tip on the skis, I do remember you advising about the Yurt guys after your trip last season, fingers crossed for Bear Claw, is it the building that you can see from the Headwall Cam, with the giant crane nearby.
I also had problems with the photo upload, the bar remains empty on loading so you think nothing is happening, then wham there is a photo on your photo page, I aim to put some onto my page but have been busy with photos for our advertising publication at work, so running out of time this evening, but did at last manage a profile pic at last

trudeska said… - Hi Boo. It's good to have the new old forum back. As I posted earlier we will finally be in steamboat at the same time! We must meet up in some way on your last 2 days (16th or 17th). We arrive midday on the 15th. We're staying in a house in the Burgess Creek area near the Thunderhead lift. We finally went with Moving Mountains this time, but both groups that initially were to share the costs with us had to cancel due to health problems. This makes it the most expensive trip we will ever take to Steamboat for sure.

i think we are going to the Sheraton for the Christmas buffet. Others have suggested the Ore House, Cafe Diva alos. Yes book ahead of time. thats what i will be doing next week.
Usually kids don't want to wear the hood thing, but carry it in your pocket just in case. If it's really cold once you get on there on the slopes, I'll bet you big money that'll change.
Hard to predict of course but history is on your side. Be glad you didn't plan a trip around opening day at Vail today. They've got only one run open.
Temps have been great for snowmaking and we definitely have more snow this year than we had last year. I wouldn't worry, we tend to get dumped on in December.
