After an extremely windy day yesterday (we only skied for 1.5 hours in the afternoon), the mountain was in surprisingly good shape today: hard packed in areas, but still very skiable. We even enjoyed a couple of fast runs down Heavenly Daze. The sun was shining and the temperature was very pleasant (warm, but not too warm in full skiwear). The temperatures are not, however, warm enough to affect the snow (it isn’t wet or…

We have now had a number of really good days of skiing: fast, smooth packed powder and mostly warm sunshine. Seems a little unseasonable, but the groomers have done a great job keeping the trails in shape considering the lean snowfall. Really no complaints here: the skiing is fast and effortless. There are a few harder packed patches, but my skis are carving through them well.…

We have been travelling to Steamboat for many years (it is a highly addictive resort – a great all round package) and Jnr’s 2nd trip (he turned two years old a few days ago).
A ski vacation with a baby/toddler isn’t quite the same as previous vacations, but it can be done. We just need to be very organised, do our research and adjust our expectations (to…

I thought that I would start my blog now, since we will be travelling this season with our “just 2 year old” (incase I don’t have too much spare time whilst we are in Steamboat!).
Husband and I have been fairly long term visitors to Steamboat. This will be our second trip with Jnr: the first (last February) he was just a year old. This year Jnr is a lot more mobile (he…

Unfortunately my knee hasn’t been healing properly (stitches taken out at 12 days post-accident and the wound still hasn’t closed): I am currently on “observation” (with just steristrips and a dressing) and will be looking into my options after this week.

Rick said… It was a good day skiing. Wally World was in good shape; Buddy's and that area were a little "scapey" in the afternoon. Slopeside (I tend to go there most afternoons after skiing) was its usual happy, crowded place.
Don't ski too hard, and be careful. No cuts this year. :-)
Switchboard Kent said… Perfect, Thursday @ 5:30. I'm here M-F 8 to 5, usually ski between 1 and 2 ish. See you soon!
Rick said… Thanks, I got in around 4:30PM; an easy trip over all.
Thursday at 5:30 is fine by me. Will you be bringing Alex?
Switchboard Kent said… Boo, Tuesday or Thursday works for Julie and I, let us know.
Stop by sometime, you know where I am!
Switchboard Kent said… Almost here! A Tuesday or Thursday is best for us, safe travels, see you all soon!
Rick said… I should have full access on a laptop during my stay. My phone is an older one; I primarily make phone calls on. I can receive texts, but they are hard to send (no keyboard). I do receive the several tweets that Steamboat sends each day. I was trying to compile a list of who all said they would be there during the same time, but got tied up on some other projects. I know CrystalWA is there the first day or two, and some others arrive toward the end of the week. Kent is always there, of course. So is James, but he seldom comes over when invited.
We will have to see. Apres ski works for me almost every day; my group tends to schedule things around supper time (6:00 ish).
Rick said… I arrive Saturday (28th) and leave on the 4th. Quite a few other forum members overlap with us, but a common date for all may be a little hard.
If I remember correctly, you are staying at the Sheraton this year. We, as always, are at Timber Run, but will obviously pass by the Sheraton very often. What day would work best for you for either a forum meet or just a chance to meet Alex?
