can't wait to share Steamboat with little Alex

Glad to see little Alex is becoming bigger Alex. Have not been on the Forum much of late, will make up for it next season Mike

Hello, This is Fedex Lina. Fedex is the best way of shipping luggage. The convenience of not carrying heavy luggage at airports is very helpful when traveling with a baby. May I suggest some packaging tips. The best way to package skis is to place t…

Thanks everyone :-) Yes, will be bringing the in-laws along (and quite possibly some extra help) to keep the little one entertained and happy whilst we get a few hours skiing (although I would imagine that we will want a lot more non-skiing time ne…

Hi Boo, I have been traveling with my kids since they were babies and aside from juggling all the gear and luggage it seemed to go pretty well (I traveled sans husband in most cases!). In fact I found it easier when they were babies because they ty…

Hey Boo, Alex is obviously doing well as you're starting to think about a Steamboat trip! My sister in law came out last fall with her 18 month and took the BA flight from LHR - they found it very easy. The daytime outbound flight was more challen…

IMO way too much work and too many potential issues. The simple but expensive solution is to bring along a nanny. Otherwise wait 2 years.

Not Steamboat snow, but....

Have been back home for a couple of weeks now and missing Steamboat hugely. I also miss blogging too (I need therapy!)

I live in the South West of England and we VERY, VERY rarely get any snow that actually settles. I find this very sad and it is just one of the reasons that I love coming to Steamboat so much: I get to see heaps and heaps of beautiful fresh snow everywhere. Back where I live, the most we tend to get is a "heavy frost" (despite the depictions of Southern England in any Christmas… Continue

Day 15 – Homeward Bound

Always the saddest day of any trip… snapping your ski boots into your bindings, knowing that it will be both your last and a very short ski day.

As befits an obsessive organiser, I was as organised as possible for our last day: everything was packed that could be packed, we had checked out and we had arranged to keep the condo until noon (thank you very much to Bear Claw condos for allowing that).

Another great ski day: fantastic, fast groomers; sunshine and not too cold. This allowed us to co… Continue

Day 14 - MLK Holiday Saturday

Ok, I lied – one more blog before heading towards home tomorrow.

Another fantastic day: barely a cloud in the sky and lots of fast groomers to play on.

We wanted to make the most of a few lower mountain favourites first thing. We started off with a good, solid, flying warm-up run along the length of Vagabond: a really beautiful run, but, to be appreciated fully, it must be done early (before anybody else shows up). Then back up for Heavenly Daze, which was indeed amazingly “heavenly”! Then, ou… Continue

Day 13 - Bluebird Day and Amazing Hospitality

What a day! Busy, beautiful and a LOT of fun!

We got up and out onto the mountain to find not a cloud in the sky. The further you got up the mountain, the bluer the sky seemed to become. It was so beautiful, it was the sort of day that you see in holiday brochures or on postcards.

Yet another day of perfect groomers to carve through and we took full advantage of that invitation: heading all over the mountain in the morning. We headed straight across to Sunshine: Upper High Noon was amazing and… Continue

Day 12 - Delicious!

Delicious! Both the sweet memories of last night’s meal (at Café Diva) and the skiing today!

Steamboat was very kind to us, again, today. Things started off VERY quietly on the mountain and we didn’t really experience much difference throughout the day: it got a little busier, but not much. The groomers were in fantastic shape – incredibly carvable. My knees, though a bit creaky, rose to the occasion and we carved down fabulous groomers all day. I think that it is a confidence thing: since I kn… Continue

I checked out Alex on your post and he looks like a little skier already. Glad everything went good and know you are enjoying the addition to the family. I will try to keep up with any additional news that you post but find that I don't visit the forum as much as I used to. We got some needed snow today and it has continued into the night. More is expected over the next several days but nothing big is forecast. Our forecast inch turned into 10" though so you never know. Enjoy the first year as they begin to pass quickly. Look forward to seeing the entire family when you return to Steamboat.

Hey Boo Boo,

Haven't heard any news yet so hope all is well and that you have delivered or are close. I don't even know how to get on the Forums anymore without going back to an old email and using that link. All I get when I go to "forum" on the Steamboat site is "send email, wallpaper or hassle free". None of this gets me to the forum. I don't know how it has survived when they make it that complicated to get to.

Let me know how you are doing and how motherhood is treating you.

I know it is an event you have looked forward to for some time. Just take care of you and thus you take care of the baby. If there is something you need us to look into before your trip next year let us know. We can supply you with a Pac-n-Play while you are here if Bear Claw doesn't have them or if they charge for them. Naomi with Baby Business runs a very good childcare operation. They come to you so if you and Dominic need a night out or two you will have that option. Again Congratulations on the expected son.

Congratulations and I know you can hardly wait to add the new little skier to the family. We will be around next year to make some runs for sure and admire the new addition. You will never be able to take a year off after you introduce your son to the slopes. He will be hooked just like the two of you. Post how things are going or send me an email: dstdillard@msn.com

Hello Boo Boo, I have been on this forum so little I forgot how to respond so I responded to your note on my page. Essentially I said that we have not moved yet but built a horse barn this summer. We are putting our in-town home on the market soon so that we can do the expansion we want on the country home. Hope you and Dominic are doing well. If you are returning this year let us know and we will try to hook up and ski with you.

Welcome back, I'm slowly re-emerging after winter and summer (it's taken this long to recover from winter!).

Are you back out to the Boat again this year?

Good afternoon Boo,

We finally closed on the new house but it will be some time before we move into it. Our plans are to gut the original home and add about 4100 sqft (heated and garage) to it. I will put a horse barn up first so I can store some of the overflow we have at this home. We are looking forward to the moving date as it has been hard moving from a ranch into town. It will probably be a year or more though.

Taylor's wrist had been doing much better. He will aggravate it occasionally and have to put the brace on for a day but this happens less and less. My illness went away and we skied quite abit for a while. Then I pulled a muscle in my back and Shannon made me slow down a little. Went out yesterday and going again this morning. We need some snow and cooler weather but I think we are just spoiled to having the really good stuff and would like to have it all of the time.

Hope all is well with you and Dominic. I have not kept up with the forum as much this year and just check in occasionally. Know you are looking forward to next year's trip. Maybe by then we will be in our new home.

Hi Boo! Thanks for the kind words. I wish I had the skill and patience to write a blog like you did during your visit, so I guess I will do my speaking with my photos. I hesitated to bring my good camera, and I'm so glad that I did. Late yesterday, the sky was amazing. I just had to go down and take pictures of the barn and mountain.

So will this add new trails or just wide open mountainside? What lift would service the area? I do agree that Steamboat is not the best mountain for beginners so anything to help add more green runs would be a great thing!
